What are the components needed for skylight cladding?

by Smith Warner Blogger
Glazing or Lens (Acrylic/Glass) - Acrylic, polycarbonate, or glass are the most common materials, with single or multiple layers. For added energy efficiency, layers are frequently sealed together and filled with inert gas.

Frame - The frame is what holds the glazing or lens in place. VELUX frames are composed entirely of fresh growth Nordic Pine.

Sash - The section of a ventilation roof window or skylight that opens outward from the frame is known as the sash.

Cladding - Cladding is an outer metal armour that protects against the weather while also providing a streamlined look. The glass is held in place by the cladding.

Curb - Skylights are elevated off the roof deck by a wooden structure called a curb (plywood). Used with particular roofing materials or on flat roofs.

Underlayment - A rubber-based membrane or seal that goes between the roof deck and the skylight or curb. (An ice and water underlayment is stretched around the skylight frame or curb for further protection from harsh weather and to substantially minimise the possibility of condensation.)

Flashing -  Flashing is a weatherproofing method that joins the skylight to the roof material that surrounds it. To achieve a watertight seal, VELUX step flashing interweaves ā€œLā€ shaped flashing pieces with the roofing material travelling up the sides of our units. There are no sealants that will degrade with time.

These are very much important components for installing "Skylight Cladding."
