Check out our guide to all the Valiant Characters if you don't know who to play!
1. Use training mode to test weapons and abilities before playing
The training mode of Valorant is impeccable. It is tempting to jump straight into a match, but before you do, spend 10 to 15 minutes warming up by testing your accuracy on the bots in the shooting range, learning to spray gun patterns on targets, or playing pseudo-rounds against AI enemies. There is even a parkour class to practice your movement… don't use Jett, because it's cheating!
2. Stay still when shooting for greater accuracy
One of the first mistakes a person from another shooter can make in Valorant is to run and shoot at the same time. Although you can hit a stray bullet or two - heck, you might even catch the odd killing - you'll be so much more accurate if you stand still. What's even better is to squat as soon as you start filming. Just for the love of God, don't try to jump.
3. Play around with the reticle settings to learn how recoil/movement affects it
The Valorant reticle can be edited in different ways. You can see top players using a small dot, but the default includes an outdoor section and options that indicate backing up. There are too many details to enter here, but be sure to use both the motion and shooting error options when you start, in order to get used to how the two aspects affect your goal.
4. Learn the legends and communicate to help your team
No matter where you are on a map, there will be a specific legend for that location. If you're not sure what it is, open the map (when it's safe to do so) and it will tell you exactly where you are. Some parts of the map have legends created by players who have gained traction like "U-haul" and "hookah" on the Bind map, but for the most part, the legends in play will suffice.
5. Keep an eye on your economy so you don't run out of money
Managing the economy is crucial thanks to Valorant's purchasing system at the start of each round. As you can imagine, the more you kill, the more bombs / defuses bombs and the more you earn, the more money you earn. But if it's a very back-and-forth game, don't spend all your money on an eco The nominal "ecological cycle" is important and can help you later.
6. Walk around aiming for head height, not the ground, so you can shoot at the head
Headshots are absolutely essential in Valorant, as most weapons kill in 1-2 headshots, up from 3-4 + body shots. A common mistake made by new players is to walk around aiming lightly at the ground. Instead, you want to aim for head height basically everywhere you go; just be ready to flick it lightly if they squat.
7. Avoid the bomb if it is about to explode to save your equipment
It sounds obvious, but whether you're on the winning team or in 1v5 and need to hang in there - if you don't have enough time to defuse the bomb - make sure you exceed it! If you get caught in the explosion, you will die and lose all your weapons and abilities. Knowing when to withdraw from the bomb site is an important skill.
8. Search the field for more expensive weapons than yours at the end of the round to save money
At the end of the round, in the few seconds before it moves on to the next one, be sure to check the ground for other weapons. If you're just swinging a bulldog or a ghost and can take a vandal or operator, you've saved some money. Even if you don't want to use this pistol, put it down for someone on your team, he can then buy the pistol you want.
