Uprising Demand Of Coal In The Energy Producing Sector:

by Sanjeev Yadav SEO Consultant
Coal is widely known as ‘Black Diamond’ is one of the most essential substances for generating electricity in the present day. Almost 80 to 90 percent of thermal plants across the world vastly rely on coal. Coal, a sedimentary rock deep black or brown usually found underground on earth.
Comes with different types of Coal with different carbon percentages With the rising demand in volume for electric generating plants it becomes the primary source to meet their demand. Coal is firstly mined or excavated from the underground and then is sent for cleaning.

Why Coal is Important In Power Plants:
Coal has varied according to its carbon percentage. Higher the percentage of carbon the greater the efficiency.India comes in 4th place in coal mining in the entire world after China, the USA, and Russia. Anthracite, the highest quality coal has more carbon percentage and burns clean without affecting the environment much. But due to its high cost, it is not used in power plants.
Whereas Bituminous coal is abundantly found in India. It is one of the cheap sources of generating electricity in power plants. Easy to mine, transport and availability of this fossil fuel make the primary choice for the thermal power plants.

Use Of Coal In Producing Steel:
In producing steel the coal must have so properties before it is used directly. The coal must be low in sulfur and phosphorus so it can withstand high heat. This type of coal is usually known as Coke or Metallurgical Coal. Coke coal is firstly fed into ovens to eliminate any impurities left in the coal other than the carbon at a temperature around 1000 to 1100 degrees Celcius.

And in the next step for producing steel, it is again fed into a blast furnace along with limestone and iron ore. In today's world where technology is advancing and the surging demand for steel in building skyscrapers, buildings, car industry, etc coke plays a vital role as well.

Carbon Emission From Coal:
Carbon-die-oxide contributes about 0.03% to the atmosphere of the earth. But due to our changing lifestyle and carbon emission the greenhouse effect creeping day by day. Using coal as a fuel has its demerits. It emits particulates and gases which is harmful from an environmental perspective.

Which is leading to an imbalance in our ecosystem and climate change. It is a controversial topic as well from an environmental point of view. And in many countries industries like Power plants or Steel looking for an alternative to this non-renewable source of energy.
