Understanding the significance of education for all – Male or Female
by Pooja Late so cutEducation
plays an integral role in the development
of any nation. If this is true, then we must appreciate every effort towards empowering the girl child through education in India. In time past,
the education of the male child in India has more priority over the girl child.
However, today, that tends to be different as many individuals and
organizations canvas for female education. Whether we like it or not, education
is the sole tool through which we can empower the girl child in India.
We
must understand that the education of the girl child is both a critical and
intrinsic right towards actualizing other development goals in the nation. The
quickest means of breaking from the cycle of poverty is through education
because educated women will be less prone to marry against their will.
Furthermore, there will be a reduction in
the issues of death during childbirth and their babies become healthier.
Education brings an encompassing effect on every area of the country in
different ways. When all children – boys or girls have quality access to
education, they become rooted in knowing their human rights. Moreover, the
issues of gender inequality become outdated or history. The truth is that
education creates a ripple effect of opportunity that will influence future
generations.
There
is no way of empowering women besides education. For instance, in some area in
India, some children don’t attend schools because of lack of access to education.
For others who may have access, one limitation or the other has hindered them
from continuing. However, education is paramount for any successful nation.
Studies have shown that when girls school for an extra year, there is a
reduction of fertility rates by 10 percent. Recent statistics show that over 130 million girls don’t attend
school because of various reasons. Some girls are out of school because of
work, early marriage, taking care of their siblings and so on. This is denying
them their fundamental right to education. Girls face violence such as domestic
violence to raping and this has influenced them not attending schools.
Besides
these issues, there is also the challenges of economic and social demands,
which disrupt their education. This demand could be child labor, household
obligations, child marriage, female genital mutilation, and gender-based
violence and discrimination.
The
significance of educating the girl child in India isn’t worth taken for granted
Today, the struggle for educating girls is getting stronger and the campaign is
spreading wide. The days when families consider
the girl child as a burden is winding away. Education is the right of everyone
irrespective of his or her gender, age, or location. We must support the girl
child in building herself through education because where the family goes, the
nation goes. We all have a role to play, let us do it effectively knowing that
we are shaping our world.
