Troubleshooting Procedure for HP Printer Error Code 79

First thing I did was try the troubleshooting guide that HP gave out in forums, but sadly it didn’t resolve the problem. Hence, I attempted to sort out the printer issue based on my years of experience. Here I will be sharing the steps which fixed HP Printer Error Code 79.

Solution 1: HP Printer Error 79

1. Switch off the HP printer from the power button.

2. Check and eliminate print jobs from the computers which have access to the network printer.

3. In the domain network, check that who owns each print job “See What’s Printing” box option.

4. Then, Log in to the accounts and try to eliminate them from the domain network.

5. If you cancel the print jobs using the specified accounts,

6. Now, add the HP printer in the list of “Devices and Printers”.

 

Note: If the error 79 still persist, then follow the next procedure given below.

 

Solution 2: HP Printer Error 79

1. Switch on the LaserJet Pro 400.

2. Make sure the printer is connected to the internet. You should have an Ethernet cable running from the device to your switch or router or modem.

3. On the M401dn control panel/screen, tap the “Network” icon.

4. Check the IP address of the printer. If it displays 192.168.XXX.XXX, it means you are connected to your home network.

5. Otherwise, check this guide if you are getting something like 169.XXX.XXX.XX.

6. Go back to the home screen and tap the “Settings” icon.

7. Select LaserJet Update and check for firmware updates and make sure to get the latest. 

8. Continue by selecting the update. Then, download and install.

9. After the firmware installs, you should be able to print again. I do highly recommend rebooting the HP LaserJet Pro 400 first to fully activate the new updates.
