by Maverick Lewis Writer

Room heaters are essential appliances during the cold winter months. However, it's frustrating when they stop working, and repairing them can be expensive. But repairing room heaters is not rocket science; you can try heater repair yourself.

In this blog post, we will share some tips to repair room heaters that you can use as a DIY project.

Check the Thermostat:

The thermostat is one of the primary reasons for a room heater not working. A faulty thermostat can cause the heater to turn on and off randomly, or it might not turn on. To check if the thermostat is faulty, use a multimeter to test the resistance. If it shows zero resistance, the thermostat is faulty and needs replacement.

Check for Circuit Breaker Tripping:

Another problem with room heaters could be that the circuit breaker trip and the appliance is not getting the required power. The circuit breaker might trip if there is a power surge or the wiring is faulty. To fix this issue, turn off the heater, unplug it, and reset the circuit breaker. If it keeps tripping, consult an electrician to fix the wiring or heater repair service.

Clean the Heater:

A dirty heater can cause it to malfunction. Dust, lint, and debris can accumulate on the heating element, reducing the heater's efficiency. To clean the heater, turn it off, unplug it, and then use a soft brush to remove the accumulation of dirt and debris on the heating element. You may also use a vacuum cleaner to suck out the dirt.

Replace the Heating Element:

The heating element is the component that heats the air the heater blows into the room. The heating element might be faulty if the heater is not producing enough heat. To replace the heating element:

  1. Please turn off the heater and unplug it first.

  2. Remove the screws that hold the grill of the heater, and then find the heating element.

  3. Carefully unplug it from the electricity, and replace it with a new one. You may also consult the user's manual to locate and replace the heating element.

Check the Fan Motor:

The fan motor is faulty and needs replacement if it makes a loud grinding noise. A defective fan motor can cause the heater to produce strange noises or not work. Turn on the heater and listen for odd noises to check if the fan motor is defective. You can replace the fan motor by following the user's manual instructions.

On the other hand, When a technician is called for heater repair, they must inspect it thoroughly. It will involve checking the heating element, the thermostat, and the controls.

Before beginning the room heater repair work, the technician will shut off the power supply to the heater to prevent any electrical accidents. Once they disconnect the heater from the power outlet, the technician will begin disassembling it to access its internal components. They will carefully remove any screws, panels, or covers preventing them from reaching the parts of the heater that need repair.

Once the technician has identified the source of the problem, they will begin the repair work. The technician will ensure they have the right tools and replacement parts before starting the repair work to complete the job with minimal downtime.

During the repair, the technician will also take note of any other issues or problems they observe. They may provide the customer with recommendations for regular maintenance or other upgrades that would improve the heater's performance.

Conclusion:

Repairing a room heater as a DIY project is not only cost-effective but also a fun activity. By following these tips, you can save money on costly repairs and have a working heater this winter. Repairing a heater requires careful attention to detail, technical expertise, and a thorough understanding of the components and systems involved.
