Tips to Make VoIP Phone Systems Even More Robust

by Charlie W. Marketing

As a company owner decides to convert his existing communication system into VoIP, the first thing that emerges in his mind is how safe is the new solution.

The answer to this question goes this way that of course, there are some loopholes present in this so-called robust system, but this does not mean that it cannot be the part of a corporate structure. These security related vulnerabilities can be tackled or overcome very easily with the following methods.

1 You need to ensure in the very beginning that you all firewall related protections in the server as well as the setup are enabled. The VoIP-enabled firewall functionality can be delivered very well with the help of a VoIP Managed Router. This means that you not be concerned about the presence or absence of a specific firewall.

But you do have to be concerned about remote workers or those who are always in the traveling mode with their phones. They may expose the network to several threats, but this would happen only in the case if that phone was installed before the implementation of VoIP phone systems.

2 As you decide to get VoIP business phone system installed in your office, you need to ensure that all the wireless network solutions have WPA-2 encryption as well as WPA security password.

3 Another thing that you need to do is ensuring that all the employees using VoIP phone systems through their personal gadgets have suitable encryption and authentication present there.

4 In terms of security of this system, you need to understand that mostly breaches are the result of corporate password requirements or weaker end-user. But, these breaches are 100 percent preventable and the measures are really simple. All you have to do is take the password out of the employee’s hands and ensure that the IT guys come up with a really robust password convention. Both these steps would ensure that no hacker would be able to breach into the network.

However, if you decide to let employees have their passwords, you need to make sure that they are all educated on the best practices of using these passwords. You can educate them about the importance of choosing a really strong password. The ideal password should be 8-16 characters and use at least one symbol, number, upper case letter, and lower case letter.

5. Another step that you need to take is reviewing the call logs on a regular basis as this would let you stay aware of the authorized and unauthorized actions taking place there.

6 You should also review the call forwarding related rules implemented on your network. You need to ensure that all the calls are forwarded/routed under the rules.

7. You also need to make sure that your VoIP business phone services provider is monitoring the algorithms as this helps in detecting unusual call behavior. This is important because during this process, you can detect the fraudulent and spam very easily.
