The year 2020 has presented us with a challenging public health emergency which was declared by WHO on 30^th of January. The emergence of novel coronavirus was announced as a major risk for public health and a possible event that could disrupt the entire world. Till now, about 180,000 confirmed cases have been reported from across the globe with more than 6,500 deaths.    

Coronavirus has taken an ugly turn as an international spread of disease and despite governments trying to place travel restrictions across all entry and exit points, the pandemic has spread to six continents and each passing day thousands of new cases get reported.      

In times of such health crisis, there could be no valid excuse to not practise the highest levels of health and hygiene in our lives. The impact of novel coronavirus has caused a panic and fear situation across the world and people are restricting all such gatherings and situations that could risk spread and transfer of this fatal virus.    

WHO has been constantly in touch with ground level administrations and health organizations to constantly update and alert people all over with latest prevention tips, guidance and safety measures to follow for ensuring prevention from the virus.

• Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
• These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.

Practise highest levels of safety and sterility    

Cleanliness is the prime preventive measure to practise for ensuring safety in times of the spread of this pandemic. One must wash hands with soap and water for preventing the virus.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.  

Avoid close contact with people who are sick   

As coronavirus spreads through direct or indirect contact with the infected persons, one must try to avoid contact with anyone who is sick.

Stay away from places with huge public gatherings  

In large groups of people, the risks of spread of coronavirus are higher. Thus to keep one’s self safe from the infection, it is suggested to avoid being at places of large public gatherings.    

Protecting others  

Stay away from others if you feel sick

Except for gaining access to medical care, stay at home and away from others of you feel sick.

Do ensure that you -  

• Cover your coughs and sneezes 
• Throw used tissues in the trash 
• Immediately wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds after coughing or sneezing   
• Wear a facemask if you are sick so as to prevent droplets from spreading    
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily
