Things to know about stems cells

by Swetha So Analyst

Unique stem cells are exceptionally unique. Even though they are not active for a long period of time, they can regenerate themselves through the process of cell division. Stem cells get converted into different types of cells. The new cells can either remain as the stem cell or they get change themselves into any other type of cell. A stem cell after cell division can become a brain cell or a heart cell or be a part of any organ of the body. They act as a repair system in our bodies. They also play a pivotal role in our bodies during early life and growth.Under some experimental conditions, their regeneration can even be induced to convert into any desired kind of cell. Stem cells divide regularly in some organs like gut or bone marrow while there are some other organs in which cells divide only in special conditions like pancreas or heart.

A stem cell journal can give a lot of details on the kind of stem cells scientists worked with. Earlier, there were two kinds of stem cells with which they worked called embryonic stem cells and non embryonic stem cells. Studies were conducted on the stem cells of mouse and scientists came up with a method to produce stem cells through human embryos.Scientists took this approach to even a step higher. They experimented their derived method with human embryos. These embryos were not natural embryos, they were created by the process of fertilization. A stem cell journal can give detailed information on this derived method. The year 2006 was another year of achievements for scientists. Their breakthrough work led them to identify conditions in which any type of adult cells could be regenerated into stem cells. These new types of cells were called induced pluripotent stem cells.

Stem cells would always find a special place in any cytology journal. Their property of getting converted into any other kind of cell makes them extremely purposive. However, this is not the only reason. The inner stem cells in the body of an embryo lead to the development of the entire body of the baby. A human body is a kind of machine. There are cells in the human body which get damaged or obsolete due to normal wear and tear, or an accident or a disease. Stem cell acts as a lubricant and gives rise to regenerate new cells to replace these futile cells.

Any cytology journal would vouch that stem cells are detrimental for the treatment of many diseases. Diabetes, heart diseases top the list on this front. Of course, the scientists need to employ their grey cells and exploit the positive impact of grey cells. They could also come with cell-based therapies to cure deadly diseases. Cancer is one of the deadliest known so far. Many people have lost their loved ones to this disease. Utilizing stem cells for the treatment of cancer would take medical profession to a new horizon. It would do a lot of good to the human world.
