“There’s NO Such Thing as Residual Income”

by Lonnie Niver Niver's Art

Did the heading get your attention?

Good, because this is what people tell us as children and we pass it on to our children (except for me NOW). It’s a never ending cycle that only a few have learned to break. It bugs the hell out of me that all of us have been taught this ridiculous propaganda.

My mom came to Michigan to visit. It is nice to see her again but even at 42 years old she is still pushing on me that “There is no such thing as residual income”. She came over last night to take us out for ice cream. When we return to my house to visit some more we got on the subject of making money. The conversation started out talking about my eldest son wanting to move out of the house but I don’t think he is ready. I want to teach him how to create residual income for himself at a young age but he doesn’t want to listen. Typical teen!

Mom makes a comment that there is no such thing as residual income. My son is best just to be educated and get a good job. My son is going to school to be a male nurse and that I am proud of him for. He wants to do something he loves and I don’t want to discourage him from that. But I also believe he should learn how to control the money he does make.

Dave Ramsey is right, our education system is all messed up. they teach our children everything except how to control money. I told my mom I was going to make residual income for my family. I looked over to my wife and she supported me by saying, “you do it baby”. We are fed that education is the best and that is the only way to success. I want to vomit every time I hear of this or think of it.

We live in a world where the rich get richer because the poor work for the rich. We have to get control of our lives, our finances and start thinking for ourselves. Learn how to invest in residual income systems. Make money work for us instead of us working to make money.

Thanks for reading,

LOL your title did draw my attention; I immediately clicked it because I wanted to comment that I disagree. Nice teaser. I totally agree with the last paragraph "We have to get control of our lives, our finances and start thinking for ourselves. Learn how to invest in residual income systems. Make money work for us instead of us working to make money." It can be done. And you are right that parents should teach their children to budget their money and learn the value of money. I started that when they were very young. My sons bought their own home and are except for the mortgage debt free.

Lonnie we do not have an 'educational' system, we have an 'indoctrination' system. Actually Dave Ramsey is wrong, our educational system is working perfectly. The Prussian educational system which our educational system is based on was never meant to do anything except indoctrinate students to conform to governmental standards. In this case to be a 'worker' with a defined place within the corporate machine.

The whole concept of school was to training people to become loyal employees. These people don't have control of anything, and they are the ones that get taxed the most. It's quite disheartening. I had my dad drum down my ears to get back to school, because a second degree or masters was necessary in today's world; I love him, but I had to ignore him. I agree with you here Lonnie, thanks for drawing me in too (lol; just like Paula, I was coming in to disagree). Well done.

Very creative thinking here Mr Lonnie, liked the article, love the concept.....so only one thing for all of us to do and that is give it a try and see what happens.. Residual Income has been around a long time, and not many people understand it, but if it grows each month, for you doing what you are doing on a daily bases. Then all l know is you have more money coming each and every month....It works....l have seen work and l have it working for me....all that matters....is you try and not invest dumb money like we all have some time or another....good job..

A fascinating take on the very wrong (mindset) programing most of us - 99.9999% - have been brought up on. Only 0.0001% of us have, are or will ever recognize the value of residual income. Oh, and before I forget, your title did GRAB my attention. I was going to do some other task but dropped it just to find out what you had to say.

LOL!!! I didn't realize how much attention this article would get but all I have to say is, "WOW" and thank you for all of your comments. The title struck a nerve with me but I didn't want to vent or argue with my mother. I guess I felt the urge to vent in an article whether anyone read it or not.

Maybe you should get your mother a copy of The Richest Man in Babylon, the ultimate and 2000 year old blueprint to residual income.
Great Post Thanks Lonnie

Great one Lonnie! We all love our parents, but sometimes... and ain't it great to prove the naysayers wrong! I just love it! Life is all about learning how to do it right! And we are learning every day! May I share this on my blog?

@Katrina, Yes you may share this on your blog. I would just love to say... "in your face mom" but I Love her too much to be that mean. One day she will come to me and ask but until then I will be happy continuing to build my residual income.

If you want to get notice you have to use a title that will capture your audience and that you did superbly.
Your mom is just repeating a cycle that she was thought and she believes that she is right. It’s good that you have learned how to break that cycle and are passing it on to your children like I am doing. Suppose the whole world would break the cycle and start educating the kids in the home and in the classroom? Well, maybe 50%! I am very fortunate to have grown up in a home where MLM was the norm. My mom at the age of 73 still does MLM. Don’t give up on your mom; continue to drop little nuggets in her path and eventually she will come around.

@Rona If only 50% of the world broke the cycle I don't believe we would be in the economic situation we are in now. But that is only my opinion! It is good to hear that there are others out there that are breaking the cycle.

Well. The title certainly caught my attention NOT because it was clever BUT because I got this tingle up and down my spine that an interrnet marketer has a grasp on the truth. How disappointing to read that my initial impression was wrong.
Once again English has been butchered and abused because internet marketing gurus do not have sufficient fluency and facility with the language.
Residual income, for those who care to know, is the income that is left after fixed costs and expenses have been applied. Anybody who receives a pay cheque is in receipt of residual income - ie. what is left after taxes and other employer imposed deductions.
Why on Earth can't internet marketers use correct terms like "monthly income", "regular income", "subscription income" or even "on-going contractual income"? The answer is shocking - it is because the gurus know that they can lie about everything and distort the meaning of words. Their acolytes will accept any old rubbish.

The title certainly got my attention. However, The Old Coot's definition of residual income also made an interesting reading. He said that residual income "is the income that is left after fixed costs and expenses have been applied". He also said that "Anybody who receives a pay cheque is in receipt of residual income - ie. what is left after taxes and other employer imposed deductions". Now, those statements enclosed in quotation marks are supposed to be the same thing according to The Old Coot. However, I understand his second quoted statement to mean that my fixed costs and expenses have been met before my pay cheque is received. This is not happening in my country. Is it happening in yours? Thanks, Lonnie, for a thought-provoking article and an interest-stirring title.

Great article Lonnie. My son turned 18 a year ago and moved from MO to TX. He had to learn the hard way about working to take care of hiself while trying to go to school. It's not easy! I had to teach him that the cell phone company, the utility co and everyone he pays on a monthly basis gets a residual payment every time he pays them to keep their service. It really helped him understand about residual income in his Business.
