What is an Opp. Hopper?

by Lonnie Niver Niver's Art
Do you know what a Opp. Hopper is?

An Opp. Hopper is a person that hops from one opportunity to another. Opp. Hoppers are looking for the golden ticket and never stay in one opportunity long enough to see success to the end.

Yesterday I commented on a facebook post about working more than one opportunity and I commented on it. Then today I read a response to the entire post that made me look at what i was doing. The response read, "Looking at this from a different perspective...Would you rather sign-up under a leader 100% committed to a company, or one who was involved in several?"
I never thought about it this way

I was looking at my profile today and was reading some comments on my posts and a friend woke me up to the realization that I myself am an Opp. Hopper. I am sorry friends but it is true I have been working my butt off in two different opportunities this passed month and feel ashamed.

It seems to me that I have been preaching to others to build their credibility rankings and I myself have not been listing to my own advice. Hopping from opportunity to opportunity is not good for anyones credibility I for one should know this. I feel I have let my friends down especially for those who have invested in me to help build their TEAM.

I am not going to list the opportunities I am involved with or the people that shed some light on my own wrong doing. But I will say this, I am going to fix this issue by sticking with one opportunity and seeing it through. This honesty may hurt my credibility ranking but I am an honest person even in the articles I write. I am giving my word that I will fix this so that everyone comes out on top and no one will feel they have been betrayed. Mistakes are meant to be made so we can learn from them and move on.  If no one made mistakes no one would learn a thing. I hope you will learn from my mistake and not become an OPP. Hopper. Find one you believe in, trust in and run with it. Give it at least 2 years because daddy always told me that it take 2 years to find out if a business is going to work or fail.

With that being said I hope that everyone whom I have let down will forgive me and understand that I am only human. I am here to help if you can find it in your heart to forgive.

Honesty never harms your credibility except with the dishonest and a good leader can always admit when he has made a goof and correct it.

Great insight and courage shown in this article Lonnie, as Cheryl says the man honest enough to admit his mistakes and move forward can only become a more accomplished leader

Thank you Sean, I am taking every comment and advice to heart. I am going to learn from this mistake and move on. My wife says I am too honest but hey I would rather be real than fake. I want to lead by example and not be a follower. I felt I had to write this because of the many relationships I have built here on Apsense. Everyone one of you deserve it.

Thats why I like my Marketing e-book store. I love selling Marketing and software tools to business owners. I'm not married to any company and I like that.

great post Lonnie! It does take guts to admit you are wrong! Even more guts to fix it! You will succeed, choose your path and stick to it! We all stumble once in a while!

There is nothing wrong with have multiple opportunities that compliment each other. I use one to get started and earn enough to step up to the next and it's works just fine. I'm not hopping anywhere, because every one has my full attention.

Lonnie, you are a wonderful, loving and caring person. With a little focus and tenacity, you will find and devote yourself to the 1 company or product that suits you. God will tell you when the right thing comes along for you and you will know it when you find it. I am married to one company for the past 5 years. When I started it, i said that I would give it at least 5 years. If it didnt work out for me, then I would search for something else. But it took me over 40 years of my life to find this company.. Somehow I knew that I had found my niche and I stuck it out. Now I can honestly say, that i have built a thriving online business, built up my credibility and now try to help others to do the same thing. I truly wish you the best in whatever you do Lonnie. Hugs!

As old buddy says...there's nothing wrong with having multiple opportunities. I do some affiliate marketing as well as my main business. But , the main business needs to be your main income generator, and you need to build that up before you start adding other things. Hope this makes sense.

there is a big difference between an opp hopper and some one that promotes two or three stable things.

the opp hopper as you say jumps from one opp to the other and does not go back.

The person that is promoting two or three stable products/programs/services has taken the time to stay with them and get them selves established.
Usually this would be achieved by starting with one and working it to the point that it can be run without it taking all your time. at this point you select a second and work it till it gets to an easily manageable status (and remembering to keep checking the first one) and so you can progress up to a third. More than three I think would be pushing it if you want an income AND free time.

The ones to avoid are those that are advertising different items every time they come in and post.

Lonnie you are not an Opp Hopper. They are under-trained, under-educated, and easily fooled. They enter an Opp because of persuasive advertising, waste time on free, non-focused ad sites, get frustrated and spend the rest of their time flaming every forum they find.

WOW! You are all truly blessed and good Apsense friends. you have provided me with some really good advice.

OldBuddy and bjantiques I have seen you two around on some other social sites and I am honored to have your comments on this article.

Laura, I feel I have let some people down and you know who I am talking about. But I promise that I will make it work out.

Katrina, you are a good friend and I enjoy chatting your ear off. Let's stay good friends.

Kevin, I don't know you but thank you for the comment. The compliment means a lot.

I'm just curious, who really cares who's an opp. hopper and who isn't? I say everyone has an opinion about your business and that the world would be a much better place if people just minded their own business and stayed in their own lanes.

This is not a defensive rant because I could care less what anybody though I was doing unless you were paying my bills. If you're not an opp hopper then what does it matter what anybody else is doing? After all, its their money they're spending not yours. Get a grip I say and do YOU.

Very well said Paul!

Who cares?

The people we recruit care. Opp. Hoping doesn't show leadership if we try to recruit our team to other programs when we feel it is a good opportunity. For example if I recruited you to for say Xango, "not involved just an example", and then 6 months later I came a cross another great Opportunity and i sent you a link to recruit you, then another and another and another. Pretty soon your going to get really tired of me sending you opportunities and do anything.

I believe in trying new opportunities from time to time but I have come to the conclusion that when we hop from opportunity to opportunity it makes it really hard for others to take us seriously and that could hurt credibility.

We can do "YOU" if we don't try to sell other members on every opp. we get involved in. But I guess i need to rephrase this article too because when I mean "opportunity hoppers" I am talking about people who get into one network marketing business and then another and then another. I don't believe Affiliate Marketing can be associated as an opportunity because some Affiliate Marketing Programs do not require a fee to join to make money. In fact I believe Affiliate Marketing Programs are a great way to start earning money to help support a network marketing opportunity.

@Paul It matters a lot if people are opp hoppers or not. The reason is that if you are trying to get people in your ops then we need to know if you are going to stay with it or just run off to the next one and try to bleed us dry by dragging us after you and giving us no opportunity to earn.
