The solution for lighting this walkway

The contrast between light and shadow is what helps to create the scene: when we design, we think in terms of scenes rather than individual fixtures and lights. These newer LEDs can be dimmed, are compatible with existing light fixtures, come in different color and lighting temperature options, and come to full illumination immediately without any warmup time. The solution for lighting this walkway came in the form of a more distinctive light fixture.

Blending architectural lighting and led outdoor landscape lighting together all comes down to not thinking of them as separate pieces. The places where shadow and light meet are where we blend the two together. LED technology is advancing regularly to include more aesthetically-pleasing bulbs that have better beam patterns and that spread light more uniformly rather than uni-directionally. Around the garage doors, for instance, we were able to core drill lights that would enable us to continue the scene, the overall balance and composition of the lighting design.

Using the different points in the landscape, we were able to use this to layer our lighting and create a sense of depth. By creating depth, we avoid making the lighting feel flat or two dimensional. A flood light for instance often has this effect when it throws a LED Wall Washer light over it's surroundings. An industry shift to LED lighting systems has increased in the last few years as an understanding that these systems provide more effective illumination, lower maintenance needs and costs, and smaller energy bills.

Choosing the correct fixture is important. Lighting these steps, similar to lighting the front walk, required something that would feel more at home in a grade shift setting. LED Lighting is the premiere choice in a variety of very broad or specific applications, like outdoor LED lighting or as specific as industrial LED high bay lights. The last thing we want is for people to have light shining in their eyes while they are trying to enjoy the view.
