The Purpose And Coverage Of The General Agreement On Trade

Ari Afilalo was the one who has expressed different views on GATS in his writings that are appreciable. The GATS mainly focused on removing the barriers to trade, but the main objectives of the GATS are given below:
To create a reliable system of international trade rules.
To ensure the fair and equitable treatment of all participants.
Stimulating economic activity through guaranteed policy bindings.
There are some activists who has expressed their own views regarding GATS as they consider it undermining the ability and authority of governments to regulate commercial activities within their boundaries. The GATS distinguishes the following modes of supplying services:
Cross-Border Trade
Consumption Board
Commercial Presence
Presence of Natural Persons
There were many members who participates in GATS and all were WTO members. The obligations contained in GATS can be divided under two main categories:
General Obligations
Commitments Concerning Market Access
The general obligations apply directly to all members and services sectors. On the other hand, commitments are laid down in individual country schedules.
