The Lesser-Known Health Benefits of Sauna

by Sharon Rousseau Personal Blogger
We motivate ourselves on a tiring day by thinking of hitting the nearest spa and letting all the stress and worries melt away. Well, these are just the obvious benefits of visiting a sauna, but there are many other advantages which most of us do not know. The practice of sauna has been with us for thousands of years, stay in a very hot place for short hours and then exit feeling rejuvenated but a bit toasted. On the other hand, it is also true that the health advantages of visiting the sauna have been blurry to many people for a long time.

After a lot of research and study, it was found that there are several health benefits of the sauna, which we did not know. Now that these facts have become popular, many house owners are buying cedar sauna wood treatment to enjoy the benefits at their residential premises.

Helps in blood pressure
With growing pieces of evidence, the benefits of the sauna can be linked to several health advantages, including decreasing the risk of vascular diseases like blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, plus neuro-cognitive diseases. Spending half an hour in sauna lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure after the session. It is these two numbers that offer blood pressure. The systolic is the pressure on the blood vessels during a heartbeat, and the diastolic is the pressure between the heartbeats.

Arteries become more responsive
Saunas also help in vascular compliance or how much better the blood vessels revert to changes in pressure. It is actually a very significant factor for the best health of the heart, plus to make sure how effectively blood travels throughout the body, which also includes the brain. Spending time at saunas affects the blood vessels to become responsive to pressure, heightening the heart rate. We all know that our heart rate increases when we are doing some kind of intense exercise.

Relaxes the arteries
A study also revealed that our arteries are relaxed when we are in a sauna for half an hour of spa time. It is nothing less than an indication of good heart health. It is a fact that the stiffer our arteries are, the chances of having a heart attack are more. Even though it may sound contradictory as people with heart disease are advised to stay away from the sauna, but various other studies have shown that saunas can be helpful for people with heart diseases.

However, it would be wise to consult a physician before visiting a sauna, if you have a history of cardiovascular issues or have suffered a heart attack previously.

Helps the brain
Better blood circulation helps not only the body, but also our brain at the same time. The benefits of sauna include sound sleep, relaxation, improved mood, and reduced symptoms of depression, stress, and anxiety. Sauna also has the benefits of decreased risk of Alzheimer's disease.

So if you were hesitating to go to a sauna, now you have all the good reasons to go for the best interest of your health.
