The Joy Of Staying At A Homestay

by Ankita Sehgal Freelance Blogger, Lives in New Delhi
Traveling is not just about gliding from one place to another; it is a healing and divine experience which helps you explore various places. For some, it is an escape from city life and for others just another way to flaunt on social media. But for a few it is life, and no matter what they never compromise on their travel goals and plans for anything. Avid travelers love traveling on a budget, staying in backpacker’s hostel and taking the road “less traveled.” And that is how traveling is ought to be. What is the point of enjoying nature, when you are moving from one concrete jungle to another? Owing to this thought, a lot of people have started opting for cottages and homestays to feel comfortably pleasant and close to nature.

There are various reasons why people have started preferring homestays over hotels. The biggest reason being the level of attachment which adds to the sanguinity of traveling. After all, the place you are staying at is somebody else’s home. They add a local yet personal touch to it, ensuring that you have a wonderful time getting close to the city, and enjoying seamless services. It feels less intimidating, and unlike regular hotels, it will be more personal, less noisy and you can maybe pull up a chair out in the courtyard and enjoy drinks and dinner under the stars. Sounds dreamy, isn’t it? Waking up amid greens on the hilltop is yet another experience of staying at a homestay cottage in Kumaon. Munching on local delicacies is another benefit. Homestay kitchens generally prepare dishes special to the state to maintain authenticity. It is rather a wonderful opportunity to give a taste to something new that comes down from a rich cultural heritage.

No one knows the place better than local residents – and staying at their place is pure gold. They will give you tips and tricks to go about the city – places to go, eat, visit, and relax at. Plus they would guide you on the specialties that can be taken back home as souvenirs. And there is nothing more wonderful than sitting by the side of the bonfire at night, listening to legends and folktales related to the city. Lastly, the tranquil, calm and serene set up that a homestay or luxury cottages will offer, a plush hotel won’t. Think of the conversations under the stars, surrounded by greens, sipping on local tea! Make your travel diaries pleasant.
