Most Beautiful College Campuses in Mumbai

As soon as we come across the term ‘college’ nostalgia fills our heart and smiles our faces. We’re reminded of our friends, our professors, the canteen food, the fests and most importantly our college campuses.  Mumbai has a number of beautiful college campuses where one would look beyond the academics for reasons why we would like to visit them. The following list explores them. 

Let’s have a look at the Best hangout places in Mumbai-

-St. Xavier’s College, Fort

Even when if you’ve not given this majestic campus a personal visit, we’re sure you’ve witnessed its grandeur multiple times through your favorite Bollywood movies. The Indo gothic style, in which the building has been constructed, undoubtedly makes it one of the best college campuses in the city. The students are in love with the chapel and the infamous ‘woods’, a lush green leisure space for students. The campus looks glorious especially during the monsoon no wonder the main building has also been declared as a heritage structure. Xavier’s remains the favorite hang out spots of the students.

Why visit: For the woods, the sprawling campus and the sugarcane juice stall outside the college.

-Mumbai University, Kalina

The Mumbai University boasts of having 2 wondrous campuses one in Kalina and the older one located in Fort. The former covers a span of 243 acres and is home to various departments and four hostels. It is especially famous for The Jawaharlal Nehru library and the rose garden.  The rose garden and the hundred varieties of roses cultivated there look breathtaking.  In order to visit this monumental space, one must be willing to walk without complaining.

Why visit: To see the Rose Garden, the Jawaharlal Nehru Library 

Famous alumni: B.R Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Lal Krishna Advani, Mukesh Ambani.

Address: Santacruz East, University of Mumbai Campus Building, Vidya Nagari, Kalina, Mumbai. It is close to some of the city biggest malls in Mumbai, that has become prime location for many location to enjoy weekends & dining hangouts.

-Bhavans College, Andheri

The campus is so huge that it can be designated the status of a town. Truly a fresh respite from the concrete jungle the campus consists of a botanical garden, a lake, two amphitheaters and even a temple. Apart from these, there’s also a chemistry building, a library building and something known as the college “Katta” where the students spend their leisure time or prepare for various college festivals. Many TV and Film award ceremonies and concerts take place here. 

Why visit: To see the amphitheaters, the botanical garden, the lake. Also, Shetty’s Corner often counted as one of the best restaurants in Mumbai is located right outside the college. 

Famous alumni: Shrikant Narayan, Adarsh Shinde

Address: Munshi Nagar, Andheri West, Mumbai

-IIT Mumbai, Powai

This campus of IIT Mumbai is so huge approximately 550 acres that one needs to travel around the campus in their buses. The IITians call these buses ‘Tumtums’. The gigantic campus after from its cluster of buildings has 15 hostels, 2 schools, 2 Olympic sized swimming pools and much more. The campus is located between Vihar and Powai lakes. Since it is extremely close to the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, leopards are not a rare sight. 

Why visit: To sit in the ‘Tumtum’ and take a tour around the beautiful campus

Famous alumni: Udaya Kumar, Nitin Nohria, Ravindran Kannan, Sudheendra Kulkarni, Manohar Parrikar

Address: Adi Shankaracharya Marg, IIT Area, Powai, Mumbai
