by Barkha Pahuja SEO/Writer

Vermicompost is a natural and 100% organic fertilizer, which is made with the help of different species of worms like red or white worms, earthworms etc. A naturally composed Vermicompost has 5 times more nitrogen, 2 to 2.5 times more potassium and 2.5 to 3 times more zinc as compared to the normally refined fertilizers. The traces of calcium are also found in this. To increase the yield of apple vermicompost is highly recommended by the experts, studies have shown that regular use of vermicompost for producing apples have commendably improved the chemical formulation of the fruit, reduces the acidity of the soil and significant increase in the average weight of the overall production. Apple is great fruit as it contains tons of antioxidants, different minerals, and fiber, it is very important that the quality of apples should not be compromised, hence a naturally 100% organic vermicompost for apple is an optimum choice to keep the goodness intact.

Processes of making Vermicompost

The total process takes around 60 days. Firstly, all natural and organic wastes like the husk, stalks, vegetable, and fruit peels, leaves, weeds, and all such products are collected and stored in a huge deep open tank. It can be of concrete, wooden or plastic. The mixture is then covered with the moist sand for up to 15cm and with a layer of 2 to 3 inches of cow dung. At last a bag full of worms is poured into the tank and spread out evenly. This mixture is covered by a moist cloth. It is very important to protect the mixture from birds, insects, and parasites, as it can ruin the quality of a good vermicompost, therefore, the manufactures spray insecticides and pesticides outside the tank to protect the compost from such threats. The worms feed themselves with the organic waste, it consumed almost 40 to 60% of the waste in a period of the 60 days, and a single worm weight between 0.5 to 0.6 grams produce a cast for about 50% of the waste it consumed in a day. The presence of nutrients in a vermicompost depends the quality of raw material and species of worms used. It is very important to keep a regular check on the temperature and moisture levels of the mixture. The best temperature ranges between 25 to 35 degrees to maximize worms regenerating capacity.
