The Great American Road Trip: 8 Things You Should Know
by IV S. ConsultantThe USA road trip makes a frequent appearance on the bucket lists of almost every avid traveller. With an entire plethora of glamorous movies and songs dedicated to it, the American road trip is one of the most interesting trips that you will take.
To most people, there’s nothing more appealing than a classic road trip. And there’s no other road trip that holds more appeal than a cross-country road trip. You will see parts of the US you never knew existed, taste food you’ve never even heard of, and meet amazing, delightful people.
Plan your own American road trip, taking into consideration the following tips:
- Road
Rules: Driving in America is tricky. Not only do you sit on the wrong side
of the car, you also drive on the wrong side of the road. The gear is on
your right side, and the speedometer will show miles instead of
kilometres. Make sure you have acclimated to the driving style before you
take a long road trip. Take some time to familiarise yourself with the car
and the driving style.
- Make a
flexible plan: Before you begin your road trip, make sure you have a plan.
However, your plan must be adjustable. Decide where to sleep every night,
and plan to drive no more than eight hours a day. Apart from that, enjoy
the days of wandering and driving on long, empty roads with music blasting
along.
- Buy a
real map, along with a sharpie: While Google Maps is an accurate option,
plotting your progress on an actual map is infinitely more fun. Trace your
route as you travel, and save the Google Maps for emergencies.
- Announce
your location: Keep in touch with family and friends. Call them once a
day, or send a text stating your whereabouts. Keep them informed of the
hotel you stay at, and the next place you plan to reach. With a USA sim
card, keep everyone informed with no extra roaming charges.
- Ask a
local: When you stop to eat, always ask a local to recommend a restaurant,
diner or cafe. They will know the best places that will satisfy your
hunger.
- Get a
spare key: This is a pretty obvious tip, but you’d be surprised at the
number of people who have been locked out of their cars during road trips.
Always carry a spare key on your person, whenever you leave the car.
- Embrace
the billboards: The land of America is filled with weird billboards.
Instead of avoiding these, follow the billboards that say ”Free Chocolate
Samples”. These usually lead to delightful small towns.
- Don’t forget to take pictures: Take pictures not only for your Instagram, but also to retain these beautiful, everlasting memories. Share these pictures with your friends and family back home, with the Roam1 international sim card.
Following all of these tips will
ensure that you have a wonderful, memorable trip. Make sure you stop at all the
iconic places like the Cheesecake Factory, and come home with great stories.
