3 Great Places in Europe for Your Next Family Road Trip

by Auto Europe International Car Rental Broker

It is around that time of the year when road trips serve as the perfect excuse to enjoy a vacation while also spending quality time with your family. However, driving has now become a struggle since most of Europe’s roads are overcrowded and bustling with traffic.

To keep you from the pain of driving through busy roads, this article will guide you through the perfect European road trip destinations for you and your family

Before getting started, there are a few things you will need to take care of. You might need to convince your family that a road trip across Europe will be the experience of a lifetime (and not a nightmare), and to do it you will also need to rent a van in order to explore all these destinations.

Vans are more expensive to rent than cars, but it’s worth the money if you’re planning on spending most of your family vacation in the car. Treat your family to extra leg-room, more space for luggage, and a smooth, comfortable ride, and you’re setting yourself up for a successful trip. A high-end Mercedes van might be just the thing to get people excited about this bulky, people-carrier class of vehicles.

One thing to note is that if your trip will be during the summer months, you should arrange your rental far in advance as many European destinations have limited inventory during this busy travel season.

Family Road Trip in Europe

1.       Romantische Strasse, Germany

This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places in Germany (which is saying something). Driving the Romantische Strasse or “Romantic Road” takes you through medieval castles, beautiful, fairy-tale towns, and the heavenly views of nature.

Throughout your journey, you will come across various majestic architectural grandeurs. You will spot one of them at Würzburg’s Residenz, a palace whose ceiling is covered with fresco of the four continents. Next, it takes you through the village of Tauberbischofsheim. There you come across another glorious castle at Weikersheim. Then the route takes you to the landscape of  Ries, a 15½-mile crater formed by a gigantic meteorite around 15  million years ago. The route ends at Füssen, bringing your perfect family road trip to a stop.

2.       Ring of Kerry, Ireland

For all you nature lovers out there, this route is the best one for you to take. The Ring of Kerry is famous for its iconic Irish landscapes and beautiful scenery.

This route will take you through the most wonderful sites of nature, providing you with breathtaking views. The drive starts and ends with the scenery of Killarney National Park. It adds more elements of nature, including beautiful lakes, making your road trip even more relaxing and peaceful. The fresh air and aroma of all the natural wonders makes this route one of the most highly preferred ones in Europe. Along with the landscapes, the route also passes through Glenbeigh’s beach.

3.        North Coast 500, Scotland

Another route for the nature lovers out there is the North Coast 500 in Scotland. The route is a mixture of the Scottish Highlands life and the breathtaking views of the nature.

However, this route offers more. It is not only packed with nature but also castle ruins, caves and distilleries. The road is single tracked that runs throughout the top of the United Kingdom, capturing every inch of essence it has to offer. You will also come across a 5000 year old burial chamber during your journey.

As scary as it sounds, make sure you step out of the car to digest the amount of people that came here before you and are now lying peacefully in their graves. The route then continues to the country’s ancient heritage and takes you straight to the castle ruins.

Driving through this area in the autumn season would be like heaven on earth!
