The basic division of base oil

by Sofia Khan Specialties in White Spirit & Base Oil Productions
Base oil which general has wide applications and is used in various industries and manufacturing units is actually a final product which is derived from a refined process. Base oil which is usually produced by refining crude oil requires going through a general procedure. When base oil is formed from crude oil and not general products like decaying of fossil fuels, it need to undergo a process which requires a complete setup and thus big industries and manufacturing units are to be made available. This is because of this reason that there are many base oil suppliers in world.

The process is advanced. The first generation process of refining base oil is a technological process and in this process raw products are performed. Here impurities and others aromatics are removed from the basic material. The other is Solvent Processing Technology in which it is possible to recover wax as a byproduct. In this lower the pour point is maintain and simplifying with hydrofining is also done. Further reduction of impurities is also done in this process. In third phase, the Hydro processing Technology is performed where Physical separations base oil is done with Chemical transformations. These technologies can also produce lighter viscosity grades. This is also a popular option used commonly in many refineries.

Group I – Group I base oil are produced with Solvent Freezing processes. Group 1 base oils are actually the least refined oil of all the base oil groups. This kind of group I base oil are actually a usually mix of different hydrocarbon chains. This has no uniformity. Group I base oil are generally used in less demanding applications (hh).

Group II - Group II base oils is often produced from advanced Hydro processing and refining. Group II base oils are common in mineral based motor oils; they are currently and easily available in the market. It has lubricating properties such as volatility, oxidative stability and flash/fire points.

Group III– Group III base oils is often produced from is also produced from advanced Hydro processing and Refining. The best example of Group III is base oil sn600. They are commonly used as mixed products with additives. They are often marketed as synthetic or semi-synthetic products.

Group III base oils are subjected to the highest level of mineral oil refining of the base oil groups. Group III base oil is a base oils that has become more common in different countries like America.

Group IV - Group IV base oils are produced from Chemical Reactions: Group IV base oils are chemically engineered synthetic base stocks. Group IV base oils are more common, they are basically used in synthetic and synthetic-blend products. They are often used for automotive and industrial applications. Poly Alpha Olefins (PAO’s) are a common example of a synthetic base stock. When combined with additives it offers excellent performance over a wide range of lubricating properties.

Group V – Group V base oils are produced as Indicated. Group V base oils are used primarily in the creation of oil additives. The use of Group V oils is not in themselves but it can add beneficial properties to other base oils. Some example of Group V includes Esters and polyolesters. Group V base oils are also used in the formulation of oil additives. Producing such advanced group I, II, II, IV, V base oil requires a strict and advance procedure and thus it must be done in a well established industries. The availability of base oil and its types is wide and thus it is important that its availability is ensures which may be from base oil traders in Kuwait
