There are two types of job offers employers in Canada can issue - temporary job offers and permanent job offers. 

A temporary job offer is an employment offer that is made for a specific period, usually 6 months to 1 year. Whereas, a permanent job offer is made for an indeterminate time. It depends on the work permit you are applying for. 

Benefits of temporary job offers

A job offer is a stepping stone for obtaining a Temporary Work Permit (TRP). Immigrating to Canada on a work permit is the quickest way to enter Canada and start working. At current processing times, you can receive your work permit in 60 days or less. 

In addition to this, the Canadian employer issuing a TRP can also offer the applicant a permanent job offer. This will be considered as arranged employment in Canada under Express Entry’s Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP).

Arranged employment means you hold a valid job offer from a Canadian employer. Having a prior job offer substantially affects your points in the CRS score calculator. It awards you an additional 15 points. 

Benefits of permanent job offers

Candidates who successfully obtain a permanent job offer supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) are awarded an additional 50 to 200 points in the CRS score calculator. This usually depends on the job that you have been offered. 

Job offers with NOCs starting with 00 (senior management occupations) will get you 200 points, whereas job offers with NOCs starting from 0, 1, 2, or 3 will get you 50 points. The Canadian government uses the CRS to rank and invite skilled workers who want to immigrate to Canada under the Express Entry system. 

Although having a job offer boosts your CRS score, it does not guarantee an invitation to apply for Canada PR visa. Securing Canadian permanent residency grants you the freedom to live and work anywhere in Canada, sponsor your family members to Canada, and apply for Canadian citizenship.

Yes, you can apply for a temporary work permit and Canada PR at the same time. Canada recognizes the concept of dual intent. 

Dual intent refers to the processing of simultaneous Canada visa applications for TRP and Canada PR, demonstrating the intention to reside in Canada both temporarily and permanently - at the same time. However, under Canadian immigration law, temporary residents must show an intent to leave Canada after their approved length of stay.

Identifying fake job offers

There are plenty of high-paying jobs in Canada - if you know where to look. Jobs mentioned on the Canada Occupation In-demand List might be hard to land, but not impossible. Canadian employers are constantly on the lookout for skilled workers who can help facilitate the country’s economy. 

But, if you're looking for a job, be careful to avoid scams. A real job offer usually comes from a company you know because you applied for the job or someone you know recommended you.

Here are signs of a fake job offer:

• If you didn't apply for it, it's likely fake. Fake offers often come from unknown companies or for jobs you didn't apply to.

• Be cautious if the job promises a high salary with vague requirements like being over 18 and needing no experience.

• Check the sender's email address. Legitimate companies usually have their domain names in their email addresses.

• Watch out if they ask for money. Legitimate job offers don't require payment. Be sceptical if they give you a check for supplies, as it might be fake.

• Be aware of sharing personal information like your home address or Social Insurance Number (SIN). Only provide your SIN when legally required, and employers typically ask for it after hiring you.
