Celebrate Juneteenth with a onetime screening of the award-winning documentary “Sankofa Chicago” and fundraiser for the sequel at Columbia College Chicago on June 16 (5–9pm).

Chicago, IL The educational docuseries, Sankofa Chicago: The Untold, aims at educating people about the history and culture of black people. The series tells the story of ancestors and how they moved to the USA. Sankofa Chicago is a docuseries that consists of three parts. The first part has already been completed, while the production of the second part is just ending.

The fundraising event will consist of a screening of the first documentary of the sequel and the winner of Best Educational film at the Cannes World Film Festival in 2021. A panel discussion will follow, featuring Kevin Ross of the TwoGuard Group as the moderator and Nana Yaw Kaakyire Marfo from Omama TV as the MC. There will be performances by the jazz band Congo Square Ensemble, Adwada dancer Bridgitte AduDapaah and DJ Ray Rush.

The production team of Sankofa Chicago aims to reach $10,000 to bear the expenses and keep on making educational docuseries to educate the younger generation. The fundraiser event will be at 754 S Wabash, 5th floor.

Vanessa Wright, the Director and Producer of Sankofa Chicago, said: “This documentary will enable students and young people to learn about their history, cultural values, and identity to ensure that our cultural values and stories are passed down from one generation to another. By revisiting history and learning about our roots, we will be able to build a community where every member has a sense of belonging.

About Sankofa Chicago Sankofa Chicago is a three-part docuseries discussing the importance of black history education for all, irrespective of race, for shaping a better future for the youth. The series also addresses common problems affecting the Black community in America and worldwide.
