Supply Chain and Logistics Technology: ERP has arrived

by Amit Khatter Director

Technology is very dynamic and keeps on growing. The impact of the new technologies has washed out many existing platforms giving rise to the new. The Supply Chain Management Software now facing the same challenge and is gearing up for the head to head on the market with ERP. Enterprise Resource Planning is a complete suite of management that offers integrated financial, human resources, Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management System. The ERP solutions are getting better with Supply Chain Management and that has enforced new choices for the organizations.

Scope of ERP

ERP solution is integrated package and that has interested companies from different spectrum to find scope in it. Big companies like SAP, Microsoft, Infor are seeking all the possible options to bring in customized ERP solutions to handle supply chain management systems like transportation, warehouse, labor management and others. This has increased the scope of the ERP in a wide scale. ERP is already very competent for integrated management and the increased value of supply chain management would ensure total dominance.

Why Supply Chain Management lacking

It was not a decade ago when Supply Chain Management Software was considered the best management solutions. However, as ERP made inroads, it is losing its significance. The costs of ownership, simplicity, integrated features are few of the common areas where the software is lacking to ERP. The excellence of ERP is slowly entering the key areas like warehouse, transportation, labor, global supply chain planning and others. This has pushed the supply chain software in the corner and made sure it has to compete hard or evolve with time to challenge ERP.

What ERP can do

The ERP has provided huge opportunities for the companies from all sections. This is software that does not only increase your integrity and simplicity but also the robustness. It is the era of cloud computing and the organizations would look for a solution that has the robustness to handle the cloud computing. However, the Supply Chain Management hardly offers the same to the companies. ERP has introduced the large scale operations with interacting features on all platforms. It is not only the warehouse or transportation management that can be handled at ERP. The labors working at the sectors, the financial management of the sectors and also the human resource management can be simultaneously looked after in a single integrated platform.

Why ERP is changing the market

ERP is changing the market towards it. The prime reason behind it is the wide range of benefits over the Supply Chain Management System. The existing system is failing to make an equal competition at a time when robustness and large-scale dynamics are preferred. The ERP is evolving at a rapid speed from various makers to be in line with the technology. However, the Supply Chain Management System has failed to do so.

The lack of vision and update of the Supply Chain Management System has created a big space in the market and ERP has gracefully entered the market to stay here for a long time.
