Spiciest Asian Dishes You Wouldn’t Dare Try

by Alan Sparrow Restaurant

Anyone who loves to burn their taste buds in a good way with spicy food has many options in different Asian cuisines. Between Indian and Chinese alone, you’re bound to find the right kick when you order food online in Franklin Park, NJ.

Vindaloo

Influenced by the Portuguese, Vindaloo is a native Goan dish and possibly its spiciest. This staple curry house dish is infused with loads of spices that make you sweat with every bite. The meat is marinated with vinegar, garlic, and many spices, adding enough kick to burn your tongue. Potatoes are also added to the mix, adding an interesting texture to the meat dish.

The curry traditionally uses pork as the main ingredient but lamb is more common due to religious taboo. Chicken and shrimp are also popular substitutes. Those who want the hottest version should try it with bhut jolokia (ghost chili), an extremely spicy chili.

Chili Chicken

When looking for spicy dishes, many turn to Indian food and Chinese food in Franklin Park, NJ. Mainly because these are some of the spiciest cuisines of the region. Chili chicken is an example of what happens when you combine elements of these two cuisines. It is an Indo-Chinese dish with Hakka Chinese heritage that combines Chinese cooking style with Indian ingredients.

Boneless chicken cubes are coated with red chili, garlic, ginger, and other spices. Though, many also prepare it bone-in. Chili chicken has many variations depending on the recipe used. It can be dry or gravy depending on the amount of sauce used. The chicken can be substituted with lamb or shrimp. Vegetarian variations use paneer (cottage cheese), cauliflowers, and potatoes.

Sichuan Hot Pot

Now moving to Chinese food that actually comes from China, the Sichuan hot pot has quite the reputation. Its ability to burn and numb the tongue might make you hesitate to try it. It’s a great example of Sichuan cuisine that marries capsaicin from chili peppers with the numbing qualities of peppercorn.

It’s apparently a good way to cool off because you start sweating immediately after a bite, which cools the body. At the very least, you’ll be able to have more since your tongue will become numb enough to bear it.

Tom Yum

Soups are usually consumed to warm you up from the inside. Something which spicy meals are rather good at. So it makes sense to enjoy Thailand’s own version of hot and sour soup called tom yum. The name is a combination of tom (meaning boiling) and yam (meaning mixed). Shrimp is usually the main ingredient though chicken and pork can also be used.

A paste called nam prik pao is usually the base of the soup, prepared with roasted chilies, shallots and garlic. Ingredients like lime juice, lemongrass, and kaffir limes give it a sour touch. Which works well with a generous amount of Thai chilies.

Chicken 65

Yet another hit from India, chicken 65 is the perfect snack for hardcore spicy food lovers. The snack is prepared using a generous amount of red chili, which even turns the dish red. It’s usually prepared with boneless chicken thigh bone-in chicken may also be used.

The snack has many legends associated with it like containing 65 chili peppers or being the 65th menu item in the Indian Army’s menu. Though it might take a soldier’s will to take another bite.

Geki Kara Miso Ramen

Japanese cuisine is not well-known for its spiciness as it tends to emphasize more on umami. But geki kara (or fiercely spicy) food is trending a lot these days as Japan’s diet gets more diversified. The geki kara miso ramen is important to comfort food in Japan’s northernmost island of Hokkaido which tends to get rather cold.

The fiercely spicy miso ramen makes use of super-hot ingredients like chili oil with habanero peppers. The dish is often affiliated to China since it’s where Japan got red pepper from. With so much spiciness imbued in it, it deserves a warning sign.
