Full Sothink SWF Decompiler Review

Sothink SWF Decompiler is the perfect solution for you to convert SWF to FLA or FLEX, or easily extract SWF elements like images, sounds (mp3, wav), videos (flv), ActionScript, etc. It supports Flash CS3/CS4/CS5 and ActionScript 3.

This is what the main program window of Sothink SWF Decompiler looks like:

I like the interface because it keeps the program simple and intuitive – the Explorer panel, Preview window, Export Window, Movie information and toolbar are right at your finger tips for easy access.

From the “Explorer” panel, you can navigate to the folder in which the target SWF file locates, and then all the SWF files contained in this folder will be listed automatically in the below panel. Choose the SWF that you want to decompile, and then it will begin to play in the central preview window.

Now the SWF you selected is listed in the “Export” panel. When you click the “+” sign, all the SWF elements will be decompiled automatically and displayed by category.

Till now, the SWF has been decompiled successfully by the Flash Decompiler. You can do following three kinds of operations as needed: Export FLA/FLEX, Convert to XFL File and Export SWF Resources.

Export FLA/FLEX
If you want to convert the target SWF to FLA or Flex, just click the “Export FLA/FLEX” button from the “Export” panel, and then you will see the following popup box.

You can choose export the SWF file to FLA or FLEX (depending on your original SWF).

Convert to XFL File

When you want to convert a SWF to XFL, in the “Export FLA/FLEX” dialog box, you should choose “Export as Flash CS5 (11.0) format” in the “Export Version” drop-down list.

When the SWF has been converted to FLA, you need to rename its file extension from “fla” to “zip”, as follows:

fla and zip

Finally, unzip the file and you will get all the XFL, XML files and resources.

Export SWF Resources
In the “Export” panel, select the SWF resources that you want to export and click the “Export Resources” button, and then the following popup window will appear:

What you need to do is setting the export path and choosing the export file format, and then click “OK” to export the desired SWF resources.

Multi-file Export
This Sothink Flash decompiler also provides a quick and convenient way to decompile multiple SWF files at the same time. I’m sure it will greatly save your time when you have to deal with lots of SWF files simultaneously.

Useful Assistant Freeware – SWF Catcher
To enrich your SWF sources, Sothink SWF Decompiler offers a handy free SWF Catcher for you to capture and download online Flash from IE or Firefox. It enables you to easily get SWF from web with one-click operation without copying & pasting URL.

Final Verdict
I like this outstanding Sothink Flash Decompiler. It allows Flash fans to easily get online Flash from IE or Firefox, and then open them in the SWF decompiler. In just several clicks, you can convert SWF to FLA or Flex project, or even convert Flash CS5 SWF to XFL file. As the first Flash decompiling tool come into the market, I truly do feel Sothink SWF Decompiler has grown up to a stable and mature Flash decompiler already. I give Sothink SWF Decompiler a thumb up.
