Measuring curtains to match the lavish style of your home is a task and any errors in it can make a huge mess at times of installing curtains, littering your look of home décor. Thus, the first thing while buying curtains is to get perfect measurement for curtains and having a smooth installation.

MEASURING CURTAINS

To get precise measurement for the curtains, clutch onto a metal tape and be ready for the measurement.

Measure curtain length

In the process of measuring length, you need to be clear in your mind as to where your curtain will fall after hanging. For instance

If you are thinking your curtain to fall to a window sill, you have to measure curtain length 15 to 20 cm below the sill.
If the curtain should touch the floor, mark the length of window stressing to 1 cm above the floor.
You may want hype or upward shift of curtain, in that case, calculate the length of the window from 2 cm above the window.
To add flares on the floor, mark 12 cm on the desired length.

A trick to measure length is that while measuring curtain tracks to your desired length; do consider adding seam allowance from different style of curtains such as eyelet drapery style or a pleated one.

Measure width of curtains

Grab a curtain track if you already possess in your home. Simply measure the width of the window using a metal tape.

If you don’t have a track or curtain poles, measure the track of the window directly. Add an extra 1 inch to the width, such that the curtain can take its shape with ease.

Measure curtain fabric

After you accumulated the measurement of curtain, choose your preferable curtain fabric and lining blending with the fabric. Now, drop the fabricated curtain 1 and ½ cm above the floor to get the perfect length.

To get the width, measure the curtain track rather than going straight with the width measurement. For instance

If you want to use a single curtain track, measure the total track length from end-to-end with a metal tape. If you want to have a layer of track overlapping each other, measure the rail above it and then measure its overlap together with the previous length.

INSTALLING CURTAINS

Installing a curtain need to have a wider curtain track than the window width to have a suitable look. Here, the appropriate fitting of curtain rod, brackets etc. are vital consideration while going for curtain installation

Firstly, mark bracket location on the wall and see the curtain rod fittings on it. Ensure to have a balanced level between the poles. Then, drill holes to fix the bracket and set the curtain rods to each end after inserting curtain rings or hooks in them.
