Helpful Quick Fixes for Your Window Treatments

by Galaxy Design Interior Designer

Accept this or not, but most window coverings are durable and require minimal maintenance, besides frequent cleaning every now and then. But when it comes to blinds, it's hard to say that it will function smoothly (for a longer time. Instead of ripping them off the rod in an uproar, why not adopt quick fixes? Most common issues can be repaired with no problem and rarely requires any tool at all.

A thought to keep in mind: If you take good care of your blinds and shades, they will take good care of you. So, let’s treat your blinds well.

STUCK VERTICAL BLINDS

There's no denying that vertical blinds are diverse, functional, aesthetically pleasing, and an excellent way for covering windows or glass sliding windows. No matter how great these window treatments are, they can sometimes be troublesome. Hence, if your curtain and window treatments have to strut for commotion every time you try to slide them open, give them a quick fix.

To start with:

1. Make sure all of your slats of vertical blinds are adequately aligned.

2. Check and ensure that the slats aren't awkwardly tangled with each other and arranged uniformly.

3.  If slats are misaligned, rotate them until they get in their proper place. This quick shot will quickly loosen up your vertical blinds.

If the problem persists, go ahead and apply a bit of a silicon spray into the headrail of the vertical blind. Once the spray is applied, slide the blinds back and forth, opening and closing them for a while so that the silicone coating spreads evenly. And you are all done! Your blinds will start gliding side to side smoothly now.

BROKEN SLATS ON A VERTICAL BLIND

Vertical blinds cover most patio doors or large windows, making it highly tempting to pets and young kids. The vinyl material used to make the blinds may look pretty, but it'd be good to know that it is not indestructible. A rough pull at one of the slats by your kid or pet, and it will come off right out of the headrail.

At the top of the most vertical blind slats, you will notice a slot or a hole that fits into the clip on the headrail. These slats are purposely made this way so that it gets easily removed when required. However, if you rip out the slots aggressively, there will be nothing for the clip to hold onto. And that would be a problem, but here's a quick fix.

If your blind slat has ripped or cracked due to any circumstances, flipping the blind upside down would help. Once you flip the side, punch a new hole onto the opposite side. Punch this side, attach a paper clip to the top of the blinds to seal any cracks. This fix would help you retain your blinds for a few more months. But after that, you must get in touch with a window treatment company to buy new blinds.

CORD TILT HORIZONTAL BLINDS WON’T OPEN

Horizontal blinds are made to tilt the slats open and closed. Usually, it is done with the wand, but corded tilts are becoming substantially popular nowadays. Take a look at how you can resolve your trouble with the corded tilt.

If your slats are not adjusting correctly like the way you want or when you pull the cord to tilt, perhaps there's a problem with the string that's veiled inside the headrail. But this problem isn't big as it looks. Just start with removing your blind and lay them off on a flat surface.

Once the blinds are removed, check that the cord tilts up into the headrail. Find the smaller roller wheel with all the strings wrapped around it.

Besides, if your blinds aren't tilting, possibly cord strings are gathered either above or below the plastic roller. All you have to do to resolve the issue is move the strands back to the center of the wheel.

Besides, you can go for the motorized option to avoid all these DIY window treatments fixes ideas. Motorized curtains are in-trend these days and will be a smart addition to any window treatment.

That's it! The next time you experience any such problem with window blinds, give these fixes a quick shot.
