Signs you need to see a dentist

In modern times we all have very busy routines. We have our jobs, our friends, family, and so many other leisure activities that take up our time daily. In all the throes of life, we become completely engrossed in all the things going around us, trying to meet deadlines and work out our future. This often results in being totally ignorant about the condition of our bodies and personal health, and in particular our teeth. A general misconception is that spending just a few seconds brushing our teeth will do us wonders and that it is enough for us to power on through our lives.

You may think it a good idea to visit a dentist only when it is needed, you have a toothache or when prompted by spotting some blood while brushing your teeth. Waiting on painful and stressful warning signs before booking an emergency appointment with a dentist, may be extremely inconvenient, costly and detrimental to your health.

Here are some of the reasons why you need to stay regular with your dental checkups

Oral cancer detection

This is a very serious disease that can easily manifest itself in a variety of ways. When you have no knowing signs of its onset, oral cancer will often go undetected. Regrettably, when left undetected for a period of time, it can develop rapidly and be life threatening. Attending your local dentist on a regular basis for a routine checkup will allow for early detection and timely intervention with a greater chance for a cure. Your dentist will be highly trained and skilled when it comes to recognizing these signs and symptoms as well as any precancerous conditions. Dental professionals will also be able to utilize additional tests whenever required and help to identify high risk factors like excessive tobacco and alcohol use, as well as significant sun exposure which could lead to an increased risk of lip cancer.

Plaque, tartar and cavities

Even the most diligent daily brushers and flossers are capable of missing areas in the mouth where bacteria can build up. After a 24-hour period, plaque buildup could prove difficult to remove, and after just a short while longer will solidify and turn into tartar. This, in turn, becomes even more difficult to deal with when there is no professional help or intervention. Regular dental cleaning would prevent tartar from eroding the teeth or creating cavities within them, most often the main cause of cavities. Cavities are like stealth bombers, rarely give any signs of their presence until they result in a dull toothache or in worse cases a dental abscess. Regrettably, once it has reached this stage you will have to spend even more time at the dentist to have your tooth filled.

This is why it is best that you mark your calendar for your appointment with a great dentist like Francois Bothma. The Australian dentist and independent bishop of the Home temple Group works at the Kite Street Dental clinic in Orange, NSW. Francois completed higher education with a great undergraduate basis gained in dental care in South Africa, where he spent his early years. He later relocated to Sydney, and then Orange to provide dental care to others.
