3 Signs You Need To Visit The Dentist

by Natalie W. Freelance Writer and Researcher

Visiting the dentist is absolutely essential, as it is so easy for oral health problems to go unnoticed for a long time. Dentists are able to identify problems much easier and more quickly than you might be able to, so visiting should definitely be a priority. If you are ever concerned about anything to do with your teeth, whole mouth area (including your jaw) and gums, then you should definitely pay the dentist a visit. However, we’re also here to highlight a few additional things that suggest it’s time for you to visit.

You Haven’t Been In 6 Months

The first sign that you need to visit the dentist is if you haven’t been in the last 6 months. It is advised that you visit your dentist every 6 months, whether it’s your general dentist or a cosmetic dental clinic, as this is the perfect amount of time between appointments to allow your dentist to identify any problems early on and treat them. When issues are caught early, not only does this help to make the treatment much less invasive than if you’d left it longer, but which also helps to make the treatment cheaper. Overall, preventing issues from arising or catching them early on is so important, so make sure you get booked in for your next appointment.

You Are Experiencing Any Kind of Pain or Discomfort

Another sign that you need to visit your dentist is if you are experiencing any kind of pain or discomfort in the teeth, mouth, gums, jaw or any other surrounding area. This could be a sign that something isn’t quite right and you need intervention, for example you may have jaw pain and when you go to the dentist they identify you have been grinding your teeth in the night. Without intervention, this can cause irreparable damage, so it must be addressed.

Another example is if you start experiencing tooth pain, you may need a filling if it’s caught early on or if the issue is left unattended for too long, you may end up needing full root canal treatment or you may lose your tooth and need dental implants, which are very expensive. In this case, a simple visit to the dentist could save your tooth, so it is certainly worth it.

You Are Struggling To Keep Your Teeth Clean

Last but not least, it’s very important that if you are noticing it’s difficult to keep your teeth clean, you’ve got to visit the dentist. Not cleaning your teeth properly can result in plaque building up in the mouth, which eventually hardens to create tartar, which can lead to a whole host of issues such as gum disease or tooth loss.

So, a quick visit to the dentist can help you to identify the areas you’re missing and they will be able to advise on how you can improve your oral health routine and provide advise on products specific to you and your oral health.
