Save Big and Explore More with Flights to New York

by Daisy Wilkinson Travel Guides

New York City is known by many nicknames, such as 'The Capital of the World' and 'The Big Apple'. This globally renowned city in the United States of America (USA) was founded in the early part of the 17th century on Lower Manhattan as a trading post by the Dutch colonists. In recent times, it has grown significantly to become the world's cultural and financial capital. The city is home to over 3 million residents who were born outside the USA. As compared to any other city in the world, New York City has the largest population of such individuals.

You can save a significant amount while booking your flights to New York well in advance and utilise the savings to explore its most popular attractions. Among them is, of course, the Statue of Liberty. This iconic monument was a gift of France to America. It was constructed in the late 19th century and is considered a symbol of freedom. You can have a closer look at the statue by taking a boat trip to Liberty Island. However, if you wish to get inside the statue, you'll have to purchase a ticket. It is absolutely necessary that you pre-purchase your ticket during the peak season.

Another majestic attraction worth exploring is Central Park, which is an excellent place to get away from the city's hustle-bustle and relax amidst pleasant natural surroundings. You can take a walk, enjoy cycling, or go on a carriage ride through the pathways of this park. During the winter season, Wollman Rink becomes the most sought-after place for skating enthusiasts in this part of New York City. Central Park is located in the central part of the city and is considered as a beautiful place that allows tourists as well as residents to experience nature and have some fun amidst the city's chaotic life.

One of the city's attractions that feature in the list of many tourists is the Rockefeller Center. Locate in the middle of Manhattan, it is a vast shopping and entertainment complex. Although it is home to offices of several media companies, its major attraction is a 70-storeyed building called Rockefeller Plaza. This skyscraper was built in the Art Deco architectural style and gives you the chance to enjoy some fascinating views from its observation deck known as 'Top of the Rock'. Also called 'the deck', it spans the top three floors of the building with outdoor and indoor spaces for enjoying the views.

If you're an art lover, you'd definitely like to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which is popularly called 'The Met'. This art museum was founded in the late 19th century and is still one of America's most famous museums. It is home to over 2 million works of art that gives you the opportunity to explore 5,000 years of history. The most important among these collections are arms, decorative arts, photographs, costumes, and Egyptian art. If you take the 'Empty Met Tour' of this museum, you can browse through its incredible collections in the morning before it opens to the general visitors.
