Royal Arch Masonry – An important order in Freemasonry
by Online Masonic Regalia Online Masonic RegaliaRoyal
arch is an order in Freemasonry administered by the Supreme Grand Chapter in
England. The Supreme Grand Chapter is linked to the United Grand lodge and
shares the administrative systems with it. Royal Arch comes from Ireland in
1743 according to the first documented evidence and it appears that it was an
extra added work done within the Craft Lodges in England, Scotland and Ireland
for many years.
The
qualification for joining the Royal Arch is when a Freemason has attained the
rank of a Master Mason after a period of one month in a Lodge registered under
the United Grand Lodge of England. After joining the Royal Arch Masonry, its
members are called Companions and they meet in Chapters. Each Royal Arch
Chapter consists of a number of officers that hold specific titles and duties.
The most important chapters are ruled by three Grand Principles conjointly for
a period of one year.
Supreme
Grand Chapter is composed of 660 London Chapters, 2400 Provincial Chapters and
320 Chapters abroad with a total membership of more than 111,000 Companions.
Royal Arch Companions are probably approximately to 1.5 million worldwide.
Any
Craft Mason who has attained the rank of a Master Mason for at least 4 weeks
standing is entitled to become the member of Royal Arch Freemasonry. Every
Lodge doesn’t have its own chapter. All chapters are sponsored by a craft lodge
whose name they adopt. A Master Mason join the Chapter related to his Lodge but
many prefer to join a different Chapter in a different location to extend their
Masonic circle.
Royal
Arch Chapter Provincial Regalia differs from that of a Craft Lodge. It consists
of an apron with a distinctive red and blue surround. Companions also wear a
red and blue sash, a special breast jewel and custom pin badges which
the Royal Arch Masons can also wear in their Craft Lodges. This shows the bond
that exists between Craft and Royal Arch.
