Recession-Proof Businesses: Reliable B2B Leads In Malaysia

by Dara Lin Consultant

As a Malaysian business owner, especially one with ambition, leaving the comfort of your country and expanding could be a very daunting idea. Well, it cannot be helped. After all, profitability can be best found beyond one’s shores. That is why it is important to have a good demand generation campaign that will generate qualified b2b leads. The sales leads that you generate are certainly very valuable, and you will need this if you want to identify potential business partners, buyers, or simply a business network. Still, that is where the problem comes in. How can you be sure that you are investing in a stable foreign firm, in a foreign country? The answer lies in the industry. You see, despite how bad the economy has become, it is always to your advantage to do business with one that will either complement your own firm, or carry your name to their own customers and B2B leads. Also, it would be great if you can work with a company that belongs in a very stable industry. While each country have their own mix of businesses, they all share some common traits, one way or another. This can help you when planning your appointment setting campaign. There are a couple of industries that you can try. You just need to make sure that they will match your business well. And what are these?

  1. Candies and cosmetics - despite the downturn in the global economy, cosmetics are still a strong business. Women would want to be beautiful (especially if they are in a job interview). As for candies, this is not child’s stuff, mind you. From schools cafeterias to the office jellybean bowl, everyone wants to have some sweets.
  2. Luxury retail – yes, this is true, especially when the nouveau rich are involved. Just to show that they are above others (or maybe to assure themselves that they are not yet bankrupt) they would quickly snatch up designer bags, clothes, and cars. This might be a good spot for niche sales leads.
  3. Repossessions – as painful as it may sound, this is a bright spot for business. While a bad economy might mean less people can pay what they bought, repo men (the ones that collect cars and properties the owners failed to pay for) are in for a bargain sale. This is also a good time for bankruptcy lawyers, who would certainly be busy with cases of people with outstanding credits.
  4. Governments – during recessions (and especially during that time), the government will want to control the downward spiral of the economy. And that means they have to spend, whether for infrastructure or other needed services. This is a good time for you to advertise your products or services. After all, the government can be a very stable source of income.
  5. Information technology – with all the streamlining of operations, technology plays a key role in making things run smoother. This is a good time for IT consulting firms to offer their services – in case some maintenance work is needed.

These are very stable industries that you should try. It might also help your Malaysian firm to have a good communication medium to make your work easier, like telemarketing. Who know what you can get in your demand generation campaign">.
