"President Biden, you have the key"

"It is time to put an end to the oblivion, neglect and disrespect of Latin America and the Caribbean," the left-wing nationalist said yesterday during his American counterpart's visit to the National Palace in Mexico City. "President Biden, you hold the key to opening and significantly improving relations between all countries of the Americas."

Closer cooperation in the Americas and the Caribbean will strengthen the most important region of the world. "We have a comprehensive proposal. It is about consolidating us as an economic region of the world, strengthening brotherhood in the Americas, respecting our differences and sovereignty, and making sure that no one is left behind," Lopez Obrador said.

Biden called for closer cooperation with Mexico and other countries in the region in many areas. He said that there is great potential here. However, the US President also stressed that in recent years, the United States has already done a lot for the countries of the continent and allocated billions.

"Unfortunately, our responsibility does not end in the Western Hemisphere," he said. He added that attention should be focused on other regions of the world. "I wish we had only one focus. But we don't," he said.

Following the bilateral meeting between the US and Mexican presidents on Tuesday, a summit of North American countries was scheduled to take place alongside Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The three countries are bound by the USMCA free trade agreement.

Mexico wants to submit a proposal at the summit to create an "Alliance for the Prosperity of the Peoples of the Americas", as announced by Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard. The goal is to fight poverty in the region and a more equitable distribution of wealth. First of all, it is likely to be a question of combating the causes of migration.
