Precautions One Must Follow While Using Web Slings

by Sagar Chauhan Digital Marketing Analyst
Web slings are used to lift heavy loads through cranes in a safe and secure manner. These slings are used for lifting any delicate, expensive or fragile material from one place to another in the warehouse or the distribution center. They are a better alternative to other lifting equipment like ropes and steel wires and can be effectively used for various tasks like lifting, pulling, and towing of goods. Web slings have the ability to elongate, absorb, and minimize the effect of any shock from the movement of goods to the load. While buying webs slings from web slings suppliers, one should make sure that these slings are non-conductive, light-weight, unaffected by grease or oil, weather resistant, and are made from the right material. Once purchased, these slings should be used with proper care and precautions to ensure nothing happens to the load suspended from the slings in mid-air. Here are some of the precautions one must follow while using web slings.

·    While using web slings, make sure that they are not in direct contact with any source of heat like open flames, steam pipes, and welding spatters etc. Heat can easily damage the sling material and make them prone to breakage while carrying heavy loads.

·    The safe working limit of the slings should be taken into account while loading any material for lifting, towing, or pulling through the slings. If any load higher than the safe working limit is lifted with the sling, it might break midway.

·    The material should always be lifted slowly to ensure that no shock or stress is directed on the sling. In case the slings are lifted quickly and suddenly, the lings may experience greater stress and even break while lifting.

·    Slings should be selected depending on the job at hand, the weight of the material, and the type of goods to be lifted, pulled, or towed. Choosing any web sling for any type of load can lead to improper lifting and damage to the sling as well as the goods.

·    Before the goods start getting lifted by the web sling, it should be ensured that the slings are properly assembled and there are no kinks, twists, or loops in the sling. This could cause strain in the sling and disturb the balance while lifting.

·    The slings should not be dropped with metal fitting as it may damage the sling while lifting any weight off the ground. This may even lead to the breakage of the sling during the lift and cause the load to fall.

·    While removing the sling after the lifting, towing, or pulling of the load, it should be ensured that there is no load remaining there. It should be perfectly free and loose to avoid any damage.

·    Any sharp corners of the load should be softened to ensure that the web sling does not get damaged in mid-air. This could cut the sling and make the load fall off from a great height, damaging it as well.

By following the precautions listed above, one can ensure that the slings work perfectly while lifting or pulling any weight and do not break damage in mid-air. So one should always keep them in mind and follow them every time they use the slings.
