The Legend of Zelda games is a very much popular game series that has a remarkable sense of adventure. It was created by the same person who made Super Mario, Shigeru Miyamoto. Zelda was named after author F. Scott Fitzgerald’s wife. Fitzgerald described her as an artist, writer, and a personality who has a big hand in establishing the Roaring Twenties image of liberated womanhood. Shigeru Miyamoto loved the name Zelda and decided to go with it for his new game. Over time the game series has gained much love of the people and now, there is a huge demand from them to create an animated series of this game. However, according to famous videogame journalist Blake J.
Harris, Nintendo’s first and only attempt in creating a Zelda cartoon, in 1989, was spoiled due to its protagonist which was not likable at all. In episode 421 of the Geek’s Guide to the Galaxy Podcast, Harris said that not even a single element of the cartoon showed him that Link, the protagonist, was loyal to anyone or treated other people like family, or respectfully, or did anything with the right intention. He just thought that the guy was a total jerk.

The famous Fantasy author Erin Lindsey agrees with Harris that the portrayal of Link’s personality in the show completely ruins it. What annoys her the most is the pathetic sexist attitude of Link who is the protagonist toward Princess Zelda. Lindsey said that throughout the series, Link catcalls the princess at the 59-second mark of the whole show. Along with that, in every episode, Link is shown making a completely unwanted pass at her.

Looking at the good side of the show, the host of Geek’s Guide to the Galaxy, David Barr Kirtley says that he rejoices several aspects of the show. He is extremely fascinated by the way it faithfully combines the music, sound effects, monsters, and items from the original game into the show. He hopes that if the makers decide to go for another animated show, they contain to keep the sound effects and other videogame elements into the show, which set it apart from other cartoons that are very different from their actual game.

Zach Chapman who is a science fiction author says that he would like to see another Zelda cartoon. But he recommends that the makers should take some inspiration from the game and make Link a silent character without any dialogue. He said that he would rather love to see Genndy Tartakovsky, the guy who did Samurai Jack, do a take on Zelda and see Link as a silent protagonist, who doesn’t speak and silently does all the heroic things.
