Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet South Australia - 6 Bottles

by James Clarke Wine Lover

Penfolds is a reputed Australian wine estate founded by Christopher Rawson Penfold in the Adelaide Hills region in 1844. Currently a part of Treasury Wine Estates, Penfolds stands proud as one of the oldest and most reputed wineries in all of Australia. The Koonunga Hill range is named after one of their vineyards in Barossa Valley, which witnessed its first vintage in the year 1976.

TASTING NOTES

Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet is a blend of 38% Shiraz with 62% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, both sourced from the warmer wine regions of McLaren Vale and Barossa Valley. This mesmerising Shiraz Cabernet features a bright crimson red colour. The attractive nose exhibits juicy aromas of dark sour cherry, blackberry, rhubarb fruits, malt and oats, with subtle hints of green olive and pomegranate lurking in the background. The smooth and textured palate is driven by flavours of white chocolate mousse, dairy chocolate, plum, pomegranate and dark berry fruits, altogether leading to a finale reminiscent of smokey and charry oak notes. This wonderful red wine has the potential to be cellared for about 2 years and matches best with food items like chilli con carne, couscous royal and beef medallions.
