Overview and Benefits of Surrogacy in India

Surrogacy is a new modern medical process which facilitates the childless couples to enjoy parenthood with help of medical advancement. This is very helpful for the couples who have failed to have children in the natural process or through medical treatments. The whole process involved another mother, who is called surrogate mother in order to born a child and the procedure is bounded by a contract. From past few years India become the favorite surrogacy destination for the childless couples around the world for having their own child and enjoying the joy of parenthood. Historically, the first surrogate child was born in India in 1994. Although commercial surrogacy was legalized in India by the Supreme Court in 2002.

 

There are two types of surrogacy exist, one is traditional and another is gestational surrogacy. In traditional surrogacy, a surrogate mother able to carry a child by artificial inseminated either by an anonymous donor or by intended father. In gestational surrogacy, an egg is first removed from an anonymous donor or from intended donor and fertilized further with the sperm of the anonymous donor or intended father. The fertilized embryo is transferred to a surrogate mother who carries the baby further. So, in gestational surrogacy the new born child is genetically related to the intended father or perm donor and the woman who donated the egg and not the surrogate. Gestational surrogacy is popular in lesbian couples because it involved one woman to contribute her egg and another woman to carry the baby.

 

Overview of Surrogacy in India

India is a favorite medical tourism destination for the people all around the word for treatment of their complex medial conditions and for surrogacy as well. Surrogacy in favorite destination for surrogacy due to lower cost involved in the surrogacy process as compared to other countries. According to a report, during 2010, around 1500 surrogacy births took place in India for national and international couples.

The process involved a contract between the surrogate mother and the couple. The surrogate mother surrenders the baby to the couple after giving birth against some agreed money. After the birth of the child, the surrogate mother has no further claim or right for the child, but the child will enjoy the citizenship of his/her birth country, even if the couple belong to other country. If a donor involved in surrogacy, his name will not be disclosed and the birth certificate of the newly born child will contain the name of the custodial parents. The name of their surrogate mother will also not be appeared on birth certificate of the child. The childless couples from within the country and from abroad attracted toward surrogacy in India due to its regularized and legalization in the country.  

 

Benefits of Surrogacy in India

India is a favorite surrogacy destination as compared to other countries due to lower cost involved. The cost of surrogacy is 50% less as compared to USA and UK. The whole process cost up to $6000, which can be considered very reasonable. Apart from cost the whole process is very simple and properly channelized making the things simpler for the abroad couples.
