Oil & Gas Exploration easier with Sodium Bromide and Zinc Bromide Solution

by Jalpa Chauhan Marketing Manager

Multiple Salt Solutions

It is first important to explore the crude petroleum as well as natural gas in its most raw form from beneath earth’s surface in order to process the same subsequently into other by products. Sodium bromide as well as zinc bromide solution in single form or as multiple salt solutions are increasingly being used in these exploration projects for the widespread advantages that come along with these solutions.

Features of Salt Solutions

The salt solutions such as sodium bromide, etc. are very much common in the petroleum and gas exploration projects because of the unique characteristics that these carry for which these are also known as completion fluids in popular context. Basically, there are certain characteristic features of the salt solutions such as density, specific gravity and the like that render the salt solutions just perfect for extracting out the crude petroleum and natural gas without the same getting contaminated with any other reagent that may be possible in other cases.

Brief About Sodium Bromide & Zinc Bromide Solution

Salt Compound Sodium Bromide

The Salt Compound Sodium Bromide is the end product of neutralization reaction between sodium hydroxide and sodium carbonate along with hydrobromic acid that leads to the formation of bromated vapor which is again being reacted with carbon in order to form the salt powder. It is basically an inorganic compound by nature and carries a chemical formula of NaBr.nH2O. The salt compound boils at a very high temperature and this is another feature that is very useful while carrying out the task of exploration. Moreover, the salt is absolutely soluble in water, which forms a clear and transparent brine solution that is the main product being utilized as a completion fluid. The density and other chemical properties of the salt solution are also very crucial in making this one of the most coveted chemicals in terms of the petroleum and gas exploration projects.

Zinc Bromide a Transparent Fluid

Apart from this chemical, there is another important completion fluid known as zinc bromide solution that is very much prevalent in the oil and gas exploration projects. This is quite a similar salt solution that is formed by the neutralization reaction of zinc hydroxide with hydrobromic acid. The powdered form of zinc bromide dissolves in water and lead to the Formation of Zinc Bromide Solution that is the actual completion fluid being used in the exploration projects. This is also a clear and transparent fluid and has significant density and other chemical properties that take care of these projects, which otherwise would have been pretty difficult.

Formation of Zinc Bromide Solution

In fact, both these two types of salt solutions are so in demand as oil drilling fluids as well that the modern chemical manufacturers in India are engaged in the manufacture, packaging and distribution of the products within India as well as abroad. It goes without saying that due to all these reasons, the Indian chemical industry has gained lot of momentum and money as well by exporting these products to various parts of the world.
