New Update Regarding Microsoft's Your Phone App

by Emma Justine Web Designer

On August 1, Microsoft gave a hint regarding the Your Phone application, which was first revealed at Microsoft's Build developer conference in May this year. However, since then not much was heard of it.

Now, Microsoft has started to test the app publically for Windows 10 on Android devices. Microsoft publicized this update in a post which announced the roll out of  Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17728. At present, the Your Phone app is one of the most significant updates in Windows 10. Just as the name suggests, this app is built to allow users to get access to their mobile device's content such as texts, documents, images, on computers running Windows 10. Users having phones with Android 7.0 Nougat or above can get this app. With this application, users can synchronize their phone data with their PCs.

Your Phone application can be downloaded and installed on Android phones and tabs. Rather than manually or wirelessly transferring pictures and other phone content, the app will auto sync the content between the phone and PC.

The intent of this app by Microsoft is to enable access to content from a mobile device (Android, iPhone, iPad) on a PC running Windows 10, wirelessly and automatically.

A critic may insinuate that Apple customers have had strong integration with the Apple ecosystem since a while, and Google has launched Android Messages for the browser for desktop computers and laptops. So the users can send texts via their desktops. Apple provides a similar feature called iMessage. With iMessage, users can send SMS messages to Android users via the application. Now, Microsoft has come up with its very own Your Phone app.

In the recent announcement, the segment which previewed Your Phone revealed that users would no longer have to email themselves pictures. It demonstrated how pictures could be synced between Android and Windows 10.

Furthermore, pictures can be edited using the Windows Ink. Simply drag the picture and drop in in the application, and it will get uploaded. As a component of the latest Windows 10 version, the company intends to add a desktop pin for this application.

Apart from this, upon additional testing, Microsoft will be adding more features to the application. In the dev conference this year, the company stated that it would be working on Your Phone for it to add SMS messages synchronization along with reflecting the phone notification on Windows 10 desktop and laptop.

The complete version of this app will get released with the upcoming Windows 10 update which at present has been codenamed Redstone 5. While the company itself has not said anything regarding the complete release of Your Phone, Microsoft is going to run further tests to ascertain when to roll it out completely. In the coming future, the app is expected to be compatible with iPhones as well. We will just have to hold our horses and wait for this app to be released for the public.
