Neon vs LED Lights and Their Environmental Effects

On the Las Vegas strip itself, the one location in the world most renowned for its neon signs, more are converting over to neon-based LED displays. In fact, neon signs that are being replaced by their LED counterparts can still be seen to be stored in neon museums.

In certain ways, Lead is much more effective than neon. First of all, and most importantly, it consumes less electricity than neon. LED signs require just 10 watts of power, while neon signs will use up to 10 times that amount. In addition, neon signs tend to have their gas replaced for a decade or two, which could be costly along with other repair costs. LEDs, on the other hand, are considered to last for longer than other types of illumination.

 

Key materials, such as argon and mercury, are toxic in themselves for neon signs. Any damage to the signs may allow these toxic gasses to spill into the air and the businesses who hold the signs may also be kept accountable for the damage they cause.

Finally, in today's fast-paced hustle and bustle, LED shows are much more realistic than neon signs. Instead of having to change the sign manually for each new commercial while creating more waste materials in the process, LED signs may be configured to change on the move. They may also use scheduling tools to show various ads to appeal to different audiences that travel by different hours of the day, or different days of the week.

 

There is no contest when it comes to LED vs. neon when it comes to the climate. The LED is the way to get there.
