Methyl cellulose

Methyl cellulose is a white fibrous or granular powder; odorless, tasteless. This product in the water swelling into colloidal solution clear or slightly turbid; insoluble in ethanol, chloroform or ether.

Physicochemical properties:

MC appearance: white or white fibrous or granular powder, odorless. The average molecular weight of 186.86n (n the degree of polymerization), about 18000 ~ 200000[3].

Character: MC almost insoluble in ethanol, ethyl ether, acetone. In 80 ~ 90 DEG C, rapidly dispersed in hot water swelling, after cooling rapidly dissolving, water solution is quite stable under normal temperature, high temperature resistant to gel, and the gel temperature and the level of solution change each other. With excellent dispersibility, wettability, adhesion, thickening, emulsifying properties, water retention and film-forming properties, and permeability of oil. The film has excellent toughness, flexibility and transparency, due to non ionic emulsifier, and other compatibility, but easy to salting out, solution in PH2 - 12 range stability.

Apparent density: 0.300.70g/cm3, density of about 1.3g/cm3.

The theory of industrial methyl cellulose substituted DS 1.5~2.0, bulk density of 0.35 ~ 0.55g/cm3.

Methyl cellulose is used as thickening agent, water soluble adhesive, such as neoprene latex thickener.

Can also be used as vinyl chloride, styrene suspension polymerization dispersant, emulsifier and stabilizer etc.. DS=2.4 ~ 2.7 MC soluble in polar organic solvents, solvent (dichloromethane can prevent a mixture of alcohol).

Method name: methyl cellulose - methoxy - Determination of methoxyl determination

Scope of application: the content determination method of methoxy in methylcellulose method was used for the determination of methoxy.

This method is suitable for methyl cellulose.

Method: the sample according to the methoxy determination, with sodium thiosulfate titration solution (0.1mol/L) according to the titration, sodium thiosulfate titration liquid dosage, calculation of the content of methoxy.
