Medi-Share Launches “Give Backathon” IT Effort for Global Orphan Project

by DAVIS BROWN PRC Agency

Medi-Share, America’s leading health care sharing ministry, is supporting Global Orphan Project, a faith-based foster care organization, by participating in a 24 hour “hackathon” to use their IT acumen to update features and tools for their outreach.

Medi-Share employees have paid time to use every year to support a volunteer effort of their choice, and the IT team selected Global Orphan Project because they are passionate about the work they do for families in crises.

“I have a lot of friends and family, as well as several members of the IT team, who are foster or adoptive parents. I know the struggle they go through, like kids getting dropped off on their doorstep at 2 A.M. Our team is filled with adoptive testimonies, this is a great way for us to give back.” shared Michael Alexander, Medi-Share’s Vice President of IT.

The Global Orphan Project’s Care Portal is a tool that facilitates connection between the faith community and orphans or families in crises with real time needs in their local areas. The Global Orphan Project Care Portal is looking for innovative solutions that utilize map-based technology that will improve functionality for people to find and meet requests. Medi-Share’s IT team will spend 24-hours to make these improvements, enabling this organization to do even more for those they serve.

Global Orphan Project’s CTO, Adrian Lewis says, “The entire Global Orphan Project team is super excited about this partnership. We can do more together than we can do alone. It sharpens a sword for us. I have high hopes that this team will come up with something we couldn’t have done on our own. This will allow us to serve many more children.”

Global Orphan Project is one of Medi-Share's National Outreach Partners. The vision of these outreach projects is to transform society through the utilization of partnerships and the stewardship of resources that demonstrate our organizational commitment to the Great Commission. These outreach projects provide opportunities for Medi-Share employees, Medi-Share members, and medical providers to actively participate in outreach opportunities in which we GIVE, GO, and GROW.
