Looking For CCTV Surveillance Cameras in Sydney? Here’s What You Should Know

by James Spencer Blogger

There’s no doubt that today, Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) systems are an essential element for fighting crime and preventing them in the future. With each passing year, these cameras have become much more sophisticated and as a result, more crimes have been prevented and more offenders have been caught. CCTV surveillance cameras in Sydney are predominantly used to monitor shopping malls, schools, offices, banks and retail outlets.

Over the years this monitoring technology has become much affordable, more and more people are installing them to not only counter thefts and vandalism but also for its surveillance 24 hours a day.

When it comes to CCTVs, there are several kinds available in the market ranging from traditional analogue ones to modern IP bases ones. The analogue ones consist of a VCR (for recording), a monitor and a multiplexer to link the cameras. These multiplexers help in switching between different cameras at any time.

Modern day CCTVs are all IP based and are networked together. This facilitates viewing images from any camera and it can be stored on a digital storage platform. But these cameras are a little costly and most homeowners can’t afford them. Precisely for this reason, they are best suited for shopping malls and offices.

While you opt to buy CCTV, there are certain aspects which you should consider. These factors are:-

  • First and foremost, you need to decide what you want to monitor. Do you want to see just the faces, goods or the whole crowd?

  • What is your budget for installing security systems in Blacktown? You will also need to ascertain how many cameras will you need and where you want to install them, indoors or outdoors?

  • Colour or black and white? Make sure if you are installing the camera in low light conditions, it should be a black and white one while coloured cameras should be used in good lighting conditions.

  • If you want the surveillance images to come out sharper and clear, you will have to use a high resolution camera. Normally the cameras are capable of producing 300 lines but a higher resolution camera can create nearly any 400 lines.

  • Cameras can invariably be of two types – CMOS and CCD which is predominantly the image sensor we find inside the camera. CMOS cameras are cheap but CCD ones produce much better quality pictures than them.

  • Make sure you gauge how capable the cameras are while working in low light conditions. The light levels are usually measured by LUX. The lower the number of LUX, the less light it will take and the better image it will reproduce

  • Always consider the image storage while installing these cameras. Preferably, you should always go for DVT (digital video recorder). They are not only an inexpensive option but it is also the best option as they will save all the recordings in a hard drive.

  • Finally, you should acquire a monitor which is compatible with the resolution of your CCTV camera.

Considering the soaring criminal activities, it would be ill-advised to not take any security measures be it for your house of office. And what better way to do that than CCTV cameras?
