In order to bring standardization in weights and measurement, legal metrology was introduced as a separate wing. The Legal Metrology Act, of 2009 regulates the weights, measurements, and the goods and products that are distributed or sold by the medium of measure, weights, or numbers. Following is the registration procedure under Legal Metrology Act:

A physical inspection will be undertaken by the inspector to ascertain the manufacturing capacity (in the case of manufacturers) and ensure that the goods and products adhere to the legal metrology act and rules thereunder.
  3. The inspector will issue a report suggesting the necessary changes and recommendations thereunder.
  4. The Assistant Controllers will scrutinize the application and the report and raise any objections or queries.
