Kedarkantha Trek: Exploring the Snowy Spectacle of the Himalayas
by Bryan Watson Digital MarketingOne
of the most well-known winter trekking routes in Uttarakhand, Kedarkantha Trek is
an absolute delight for experienced trekkers and those new to the sport. The
trail is close to the charming and quaint village of Sankri, about 7 hours from
Dehradun; Kedarkantha sits firmly at 12,500 feet. Although it is at a
(staggering) elevation, it is fairly simple and is attainable for those who are
not experts. Sankri is the starting point which is where the hike commences and
concludes. Sankri is a thriving village full of culture and beauty, evident in
the elaborately designed wooden temples in the region. Purola, near Sankri, is
the only ATM along the trail. The trek is spread over six days. This is among
the most satisfying and enjoyable treks that Garhwal Himalayas has to provide.
The trail is spread over around 20km. It takes the hiker on a thrilling
adventure through rough terrain with dense forest and isolated villages lined
with crystal-clean Himalayan lakes scattered across the path. The slope can
easily traverse with no difficulty in ascending or descending.
Affaired
with a blanket of snow in the winter months and its lush pine forest,
Kedarkantha is among the most attractive climbs, particularly for novices.
Kedarkantha offers its hikers breathtaking views of the vast Himalayas. It is
located in the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary; one will also be able to enjoy the
beauty of nature at its best. With hundreds of species of birds that are
present, this is an ideal bird-watching spot. Numerous unique species of rare
wildlife and flora can be observed at the Sanctuary. It is famous for the Himalayan
Black bear Snow leopard, gold Eagle, and the Himalayan Snowcrow, among others.
It has the top-speed zip line within Uttarakhand.
The
next stop will be Juda ka Talab, a natural lake surrounded by extensive and
diverse woodland. Alongside the pine, oak, and deodar forests, a variety of
kinds of coniferous trees as well as plants are seen. The lake is able to
completely freeze in winter and be enjoyed throughout the year. The region is
mostly covered with green vegetation and forests in the summer months; visitors
can anticipate snow until late April.

rectangular arrangement of stone and a trident that points toward the sky mark
the top of Kedarkantha. From there, one could not just admire the magnificent
stunning beauty of the Uttarakhand Trek
but also see those of the Gangotri and the Yamunotri ranges and other ranges
like the Chanshil Pass and Kinnaur Kailash ranges.
