Handpicked from the looms of Bengal, this simple yet fashionable Kantha Saree is a timeless classic. Woven from the wild silk endemic to the region, namely tussar, the deep ivory creme color is highly characteristic of the same. It is interesting to note that tussar is extracted from abandoned cocoons and then spun into short yarns, which results in a piece of thick, rustic fabric with a matte finish. The one that you see on this page is an elegant tussar number.

Superimposed on the fabric is a network of embroidery, layered thickly along the border and the endpiece and in minuscule booties across the field. Green-colored paisleys, yellow temple arches, and bitone blooms have been embroidered on such a scale with superb symmetry and attention to detail. This technique, called Kantha, is a specialty of rural Bengal and is done painstakingly by hand. The luxuriantly embroidered endpiece is the most statement-making aspect of this Tussar Kantha Silk Saree.
