Beard Hair transplantation:
Beard hair transplantation is the surgical procedure which is
performed to rectify the hair loss of beard and enhance the aesthetics. The
basic procedure of beard hair transplant includes harvesting of hair follicles
from the donor area which is most commonly back and side of the head or from
under the chin which is termed as “shadow area”. These harvested hairs are then
transplanted at the recipient bald area on the beard.
The expected number of hair follicles for complete beard hair
transplant includes somewhere around 2500 grafts. Beard hair transplant is a
bit complicated procedure which needs expert and experienced hands to justify
the procedure and delivering the expected natural looking results. While performing beard hair
transplant as each hair is visible care should be taken to plant the harvested
hair follicle at proper angulations, directions and alignment. The harvesting
of hair grafts is performed by 2 modern techniques:
1. FUT
(Follicular unit transplantations or strip technique):
FUT technique is performed by removing a thin strip of the
scalp skin from the DHT resistant safe donor areas which are then sent to graft
separation room for further dissection and harvesting individual follicular
unit under high magnification. These hair grafts are then transplanted to the
recipient bald site
2. FUE
(Follicular unit extraction):
FUE hair transplant technique is performed by extracting
individual hair grafts from the DHT resistant safe donor area using a surgical
device. These hair grafts are then transplanted to the recipient bald site.
The hair transplant techniques are opted based on multiple
factors but the most common factor is number of hair follicles required and
area of the baldness. For beard hair transplant usually FUE technique is preferred
as the technique can provide 2000 – 2500 hair grafts. The maximum number of
hair grafts required to perform beard hair transplant is approximately 2500
grafts which can be retrieved by FUE technique.
