IOS 13: HOW TO MANAGE MESSAGE ANNOUNCEMENTS

by John Jackson Technology

With iPadOS and the iOS 13, you are able to get voice notifications from Siri regarding the texts you have received while wearing your AirPods. Currently, the feature only works for Messages but Apple has assured that the said feature will work with third-party texting apps and also with the recently released iOS 13.

With this feature, you will get a vocal notification on your AirPods whenever you get a message. Siri will tell you the sender’s name and then will go on further to read the text received. You will have the choice to whether send a reply or not. If you wish to reply, then you will have to say, “Tell them and then continuing with your message.” Saying Hey Siri is not necessary if you want the app to respond. As currently, the app is still in beta so it will only work with headphones which have Apple’s H1 wireless chip function. The first generation AirPods do not seem to work at the moment.

How to turn on message announcements?

  1. Put the AirPods in your ear.
  2. Connect them to your iOS device (iPhone or iPad).
  3. Press the Announce Messages with Siri option.

This, however, is merely necessary for the first time if running iOS 13 or iPadOS 13 on your device. However, you have to do this every time you connect the AirPods to a device which is running on other systems.

How to turn off message announcements?

  1. Open the Settings tab on your iOS device (iPhone or iPad).
  2. Tap on the Notifications icon.
  3. Select Announce Messages with Siri.
  4. Turn the switch from on to off.

How to manage the announcements for an app specifically?

  1. Open the Settings tab on your iOS device (iPhone or iPad).
  2. Tap on the Notifications icon.
  3. Select Announce Messages with Siri.
  4. Tap on Messages icon.
  5. Turn the switch to turn the notifications on or off for this app specifically.
  6. Select the kinds or groups of contact you want to get the notifications for. You can choose: Everyone, Recently Dialed, All contacts or just the Favorites.

iOS 13, which is the latest addition to the iOS family, made its debut(beta version) on June 3, 2019, and will be released for the public in September 2019. The addition has one of the loved features “Dark Mode” included which is a big plus for the customers.

So this was the guide on how you can customize the message announcing notification feature on your iOS device.
