This tradition starts at the midnight on Christmas Eve and continues till sunrise. The main myth people believe while doing this custom is that by singing carol singers own the power to fight with demons and chase away bad energy.  

6. United States: In some homes of United States, people follow the custom of hiding a pickle adornment in their Christmas tree and it is believed that the person who finds it first is lucky to bring a good fortune in his or her life. This fun oriented idea comes from a story of the American soldier who was being held in prison on the day of Christmas and was given a pickle to celebrate Christmas in Prison.
