In A New Article By BWI, A Leading General Aviation Insurance Broker, Breaks Down Policy Basics

Corona, CA Release October 8th, 2020.

For many pilots, purchasing their first aircraft seems as monumental as purchasing their first car. In a recent blog post, BWI Aviation Insurance owner Matt White seeks to help these new pilots understand that aviation and car insurance couldn’t be more different.

When a new pilot purchases their first aircraft, it is often a milestone met with joy. However, when they are faced with the complex issue of finding proper aviation insurance, they often make some tragic assumptions that far too often leave them without the proper coverage when the worst happens.

Whereas the worst does not happen to every pilot, most pilots are faced with the prospect of filing an aviation insurance claim more often than they realize. BWI Aviation Insurance owner Matt White attempts to help rooking aircraft owners with avoiding the most costly pitfalls that often cost pilots big in a recent dialogue with the aviation community. “Aviation insurance seems complex and in many ways it is” said White “but it is remarkably simple to understand with a little guidance.”

White explained that many rookie pilots and aircraft owners are far too often confused because they draw their insight from their experience with car insurance. White explained that, “most pilots don’t understand that there are perhaps only 12 or so insurance carriers at any point involved in the aviation insurance game in America.” This means that prices tend not to vary that much and they all follow a similar trend. The difference, it would seem, rests with a savvy broker ready to navigate the nuances of general aviation insurance on behalf of the aircraft owner.

It is often said that in the world of the blind, the one-eyed man is king. The detailed insight brokers offer the aviation insurance industry help pilots who are otherwise unaware land the proper coverage and avoid catastrophic loss and financial ruin. “I plead with every client to always work with an aviation specialist broker, even if that is not me” said White. BWI Aviation Insurance has been offering such advice for over 40-years and new aircraft owners would find some value into heeding it when sourcing their own general aviation insurance options.
